To The OP: I don't think it is really the responsibility of the state to ask its citizens to pray for a miracle. That responsibility is on the individuals and the churches of the surrounding area.

With that said...

To Everyone else:

I have never been so disgusted by such blatant disrespect. Not all of you are guilty of this, but really why do people feel the need to stomp on each others belief systems? I don't care wtf you believe in, if these people believe prayer will help who are you to laugh at them? Listen, I understand many of you are skeptical beyond repair heck some of you are completely atheistic, but really why are you acting like school children?

What are you doing to help exactly? Really what are you doing to help these people? The Gulf? The Clean up? Anything? Anything at all? Really you're doing nothing but talking crap on some forum somewhere.... Ok I see. Then STFU or go do something about it! Oh yeah, please grow up too!

Oh BTW where was the part about spending tax dollars on prayer? I didn't see that! I think you should read that again!

Who do you suppose paid for the time and staff that went into drafting this?

So we should pay elected officials to do away with regulations and reprecussions for the oil companies and have them lead us in prayer to help the oil companies not make a mess of things. I guess we should have them pray for our protection from the oil companies to then befor the kill us all to get their oil.

Above photo goes with this article.

Adley sponsored Senate Bill 549, to terminate funding for the Tulane University Environmental Law Clinic. Adley's bill, which had the backing of the Louisiana Chemical Association and the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, came into a new atmosphere when the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. Tulane University president Scott Cowen testified, against Adley's bill, in the Commerce Committee of the Louisiana senate. The Commerce Committee killed the bill.

So this guy thinks getting rid of Tulane University Environmental Law Clinic and replacing it with a few prayers is the way to go?

Personally, I am someone that understand the reality of the situation. If people really thought prayer would fix the leak, they were probably already praying. If they need to be told to, their god can probably see through that. When politicians with fat wallets (camel/needle eye, anyone?) that got that way from the very cause of this catastrophe take up state time and staff hours that are paid for with tax dollars to make it a resolution. Well, "that's the craziest ----ing thing I've ever heard."

I am also someone who fully grasps the reality of the consequences. When God did not show up and miraculously fix that leak, then the faithful have to come to some conclusion, no? Either they have to decide that their god does not love them and does not care about their prayers

or

their god felt that the victims of the spill are all evil and deserve this punishment.

So, something is being pulled up in state business to tell people to pray so that they can find out that either there is no god, he does not love them, or dolphins sin like crazay!

Well, After saying it all out loud, I cannot help but feel qualified to deride this measure and anyone pushing it.

I think you are looking for a religious thread. Find one of those and the faith bashing is epic. Here, it is mostly about fraudulent politicians that the crap they will feed their sheep. Sorry if that bothers you.

That is who I am anyway. Cannot speak for others but since you asked.
