Because you can't get drunk off of looking at a glass of beer, so it does no harm...

Priorities..

why doesn't ATS ban the particular subject that each individual find distasteful??

certain people dont like war..
or..
alcohol..
or..
republicans....

How about lets just censor things that are "illegal"

I'm not arguing to ban anything. Try to get this through your heads.

I'm asking why one thing is banned while other, much more detrimental and even illegal things are allowed and even applauded...

It's illegal across the world for people under a certain age to drink alcohol, and those images and talk of being intoxicated by it are just fine to the moderators here.

If I had a pot leaf or bong in my avatar it'd be removed and I'd be banned or warned. Even though there are tons of countries and even some places in the US where the legislation treats it as less harmful than alcohol.

This thread is about hypocrisy and where it's stemming from, not me trying to ban something.

To be honest I find your avatar more offensive than a bottle of vodka. Preaching to people that the American Government were behind the 911 attacks is sick and wrong.

Possession, Manufacturing, Selling might be illegal in some part of the world, but talking about it is not. ATS sets their rules, T&C or whatever but it's still censorship. I'd even go so far as to say that drug might actually be the *reason* some of these ppl are seeing aliens. LOL But that part won't be discussed. My only point of criticism for ATS is their censorship of drug related topic. There are alternatives to this alternative...

Way to reply without reading a word of what I said.

Can anyone become intoxicated by just reading about cannabis? No.
How about from looking at pictures of it or related apparatus'? Still no.
But it is a banned topic around here, and this thread was pointing out -and asking why- all the hypocrisy.

Why did you create two threads about this? I support legalization but if this site started allowing pro drug talk it would devolve into a drug board. You don't own the site, follow the rules or go somewhere else.

Sadly the hypocrisy surrounding the "Devil weed" is everywhere, even though we know already that scientifically its much less harmful than alcohol. I would wager that there is a sizeable majority that "smoke" on ATS but why promote that? why have an avatar with a bong or leaf on it?

Most of the less enlightened on ATS will write you off as a drug addict before you've even typed a word and for the rest, it makes no impact because we all do it anyway IMO...

Simply put, ATS is a forum that prides itself on being accessible.

Whether people like it or not, the simple truth is that net filters, both private and governmental, will filter out drug useage talk/images in the same manner that they will filter out pornography or other such behaviour that is classed as socially unacceptable and illegal.

I, for one, do not want my employer to ban my ATS access. I'm sure there are many other people who post on ATS who feel the same way.

Last time I checked, images of bottles/glasses with liquid in aren't filtered anywhere.

This subject gets raised time and time again, and the answer is always the same, and will always remain the same. Such rules are in place to ensure that ATS remains as visibile to as many people as possible.
