Bangladesh: 77m poisoned by arsenic in drinking water

Up to 77 million people in Bangladesh have been exposed to toxic levels of arsenic from drinking water in recent decades, according to a Lancet study.

The research assessed nearly 12,000 people in a district of the capital Dhaka for over a period of 10 years.

More than 20% of deaths among those assessed were caused by the naturally occurring poisonous element, it found

Up to 20% of the deaths in this country is directly linked to arsenic in there drinking water, this is insane. The article states that this is the larges mass poisoning ever.

They need to invest in deep water wells and creating a national fresh water pipeline, ground water is not healthy as this study clearly demonstrates....

I agree with you here.

77 million people poisoned, 5 flags but only one response. I thought this is a huge deal. Is there government going to do anything about this?

Seems they need to act on this, maybe the UN can help isn't that what there there for???

Nope. Not unless they can blame it on the US or Israel. And, then, only if the US can be made to pay for it.

I wish these news sites would stop broadcasting things like this to tell you the truth..... it's like saying 'HELLO TERRORISTS.... THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO' to the World!!!

Do you know what though? It's pretty disgusting over there and so i'm not surprised and why have their Leaders not bothered to look after their own people? You have to ask yourself the question!!
