They are only showing us what they want us to see.

Oh please.

Do you actually believe if there was something to see that the MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO LIVE ALONG THE GULF COAST would NOT be screaming bloody murder, taking pictures and blogging, reporting and all around letting every freaking body know?

Sorry that the worst case scenarios haven't happened yet for you disaster porn folks...sheesh.

Premptively I'd like to add that I was raised in Tampa,Florida and I still have family all along the Gulf coast..because inevitably along with the "you're disinfo" comes the "you're a brit so what do you know" responses.

All these conspiracy things implying no oil has come ashore yadda yadda its not like X or Y, is really, really beginning to irritate me. I live in Pensacola.

It is simple to explain why the oil isn't EVERYWHERE like Exxon.

The gulf has some wicked currents along it's coast, lots of trenchs, sand bars, barrier islands, etc... if you look into it, a lot of the barrier islands south of Mississippi and Louisiana are getting covered in oil, but the sands are soaking up a lot and just staining...

However, for Exxon, all that oil got dispersed about a mile off the coast for one island, 7 miles or so from others/main coast. Which means the oil was RIGHT THERE. With prevailing tides/currents it would be brought right up onto the shores before dispersing to much.

With this disaster however, at closest it is, what, 68 miles from shore? It is 160 something or so from me. The gulf has some strong currents in regions, and the barrier islands add into that too. Think 'Areodynamic' - if you put something solid in the way of the ocean, you cause it to flow dynamically around it. You put several dozen of something, all together, you get some interesting currents. The oil isn't just free to wash ashore. It is not 'be lining' towards the coast.

What happens is, by the time it reaches the coast, its in 'waves' - not like ocean waves but like waves of enemies. Each tide brings it in to the shore, and prevailing currents make some areas worse than others.

Mobile Bay for example, has plenty of oil patches in it. Pensacola beach for example, is stained forever now with a dirty brown. Biloxi beach, closer to the spill? Still it's usual while. A few tar-balls and dirty spots - but nothing like Pensacola from what I could see.

Why? Pensacola beach IS our barrier island. Biloxi is NOT the barrier island. Currents are flowing differently here than there, etc.

There is plenty of oil to go around, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to the massive scale of the gulf, and the gulf is sending it every-which-way. The % that does get drawn into the coasts rely on the following:

Current
Wind
Tide

So in regions that have a strong current towards or along a shore will have more oil patches at sea. Wind will drive the surface patches inland. Tide will move entire patches to shore. If all three are combined you end up with a huge wash up like Pensacola had...

You CAN NOT compare the mechanics of this spill to the Exxon.

No, they wont. 65 feet from a boom (and a potentially toxic environment) is not a police state, whatsoever.

If the government DIDNT institute the 65 ft rule, the same people screaming about a Police State would be screaming about how "the Government isnt taking this seriously enough and wont PROTECT THE PEOPLE and wont somebody think of the Children?!?!! "
