17,000 troops...to act as claims adjusters?

In his speech, obama indicated he is activating 17,000 troops to help with the clean up and perform tasks such as adjusting claims.

Does this sound a little fishy to you? I'm curious if these guys will be toating M-16's while writing checks. Sounds more like a pretext for getting boots on the ground for ...evacuation? Martial Law? Invasion?

Adjusters actually don't write any checks or anything of that nature. I have them for my business for cell phone insurance. They evaluate fraud cases and settle disputes with sketchy accounts.

They simply evaluate the need for programs such as re-imbursement for wages or lively hood.

It seems these troops will be on the ground, doing runs and making sure that people aren't taking advantage of the system set in place.

Still bad, they should not use military for these purposes.

The way I heard it, he said he was going to make sure there was a 3rd party that gets involved to take care of the claims. I didn't take what he said as the military handling claims at all. That's like giving a bean counter a machine gun and dropping him from a helicopter in a warzone.

Sounds like Obama just wants the most qualified for the job. I hope I get one of the felons who never graduated high school to adjust my claim.

It is because of the discounting that is done we are in the position we are in.

The troops are NOT PAPER MONKIES!

The troops do only several things, and usually it all ends in killing.

There are here for keeping order when there will be none.

I am not trying to bash you, but the troops are not our friends and they do not protect Americans.

They are U.S. corporate Jackals that follow their masters rules. Which are not likely to be U.S. troops more likely to be Russian and Etc. due to all the "military training exercises" that have been going on.

Like the shipment of tanks to San Diego.

I missed the speech, tell me what kind of claims are they expecting and by how many people if it is going to take 17,000 troops to pull it off?

As ive said before, in my town here along the gulf coast our national guard unit has been posted in iraq since 2007. The only thing at the armory is the weeds pushing up through the concrete. Kinda hard to activate what isn't here.
The pres needs to get his fact right before he says stuff which dosn't exist.
Course he could bring them home. I know the folks in that unit would be more than happy to protect there own homes and beaches. Instead there thosands of miles away when they should be here.

One more thing the goverment lies about.
Folks down here along the gulf coast don't trust BP to do anything. The prez nice little speech to the nation isn't going to do anything. Just words. No backbone....

In the morning my beach will be covered with thick red goo...

I was wondering the same thing myself.
From earlier reports, I heard there were
gonna be 50 Cal machine guns
mounted on humvees. I made the comment

This comes on the heals of the couple thousand troops he activated last month and sent to help secure the border with mexico.

Ok so we've now got a standing army of thousands of troops stationed across the entire southern united states...whats going on???

They are National Guard. The Governor already activated them, Obama's just trying to take the credit. That's what the Guard is for, to help their home states in emergencies, not fight wars overseas for the Federal Government. Posse Comitatus has nothing to do with the Guard, working in their home state.

The implausibility of our troops becoming real estate adjusters is a complete laugh.

Military folks are trained specifically for their field or training (real military stuff). Never has their been a training course in insurance adjustment for civilian property.

Sorry, I had to have a laugh at this one.
