Americas relationship with Cuba

I don't know if this is the proper forum

but Why does America continue to hold so much contempt for Cuba? I feel like it's long past due to lift the embargo and establish relations again. I mean the Japanese attacked pearl harbor, we then dropped the A-bomb and have a good relationship with them.

We trade with Vietnam even though thousands of Americans died, as well as hundreds of thousands of vietnameise

If we helped to somewhat industrialize cuba, would that not stop some of the illegal immigration that occurs from them coming here?

Does Cuba just possess no US financial or territorial interests?

How does a free country tell it's citizens it can't vacation in Cuba?

I believe the U.S knows the political influence of Cuban politics on U.S soil. Cuba is very close to Florida. Cuba has many great programs that are socialized which can conflict with American capitalist politics.

This is what its all about - if a tiny third world country with a crippling sanction on it from the worlds biggest super-power with nothing to export except Nickel and Cigars and has to import 60% of its food, is able to provide free world-class universal health care from birth to death, free and universal education right through university, give thousands of scholarships to thirdworld nations (and the US), send doctors all around the world, feed all its citizens and influence to varying degrees the greater part of Latin America.

If they can do all that - you know they are doing something right - and as Romantic_Rebel said, that would conflict with American politics.

Plain and simple they are scared.

So scared they wont even alow Cuban literature into the US.

I would like to go too, but don't have the money to at the mo' - and I would atleast like a basic grasp of Espanol. So far the only thing I know how to say is "Mi espanol ser malo"
