Thermal Imaging: The Privacy Killer

This is a huge problem developing around the world in recent times.

Thermal Imaging technology.

Essentially it lets you see heat signatures, even through walls.

You can buy some off the market these days for just a few thousand dollars. Just about ANYONE can get these devices now!

And then you can :
Watch your neighbors doing private things through the walls.

A pervert's paradise is unfolding before us!

But have NO FEAR people, there are Countermeasures we can take to protect ourselves from being watched by sick minded neighbors.

Countermeasures to prevent being spied on by Thermal Imaging


1) Insulation
Make sure your walls have sufficient modern insulation, as this can scatter or absorb the infrared radiation waves.

2) Double or triple glaze your windows, as this helps scatter IR waves.

3)Put up blankets around your windows to help diffuse the waves.

4) Using aluminum foil while shining bright lights on it(or even I guess point your portable heater on it) to raise it's overall temperature should also cause troubles for anyone trying to peek in.


Essentially there are two main components to protect yourself from thermal spies.

A) Reflecting-diffusing waves with shielding/insulation
B) Using other heat sources to mask your heat (or confuse the spy).

Apparently Thermal imaging countermeasures are a big issue going on in the Afghanistan/Iraq wars currently right now. The insurgents are always developing new methods of hiding from them.

I doubt anyone is going to spend thousands of dollars to buy a thermal imaging device powerful enough to view through walls to peep at you. When they can watch all the porn they want on the internet.

although dont expect your house to be comfortable, and dont under any circumstances attempt to vent heat out of the house, thats an automatic warrent.

infact insulating everything will inevitably create a heat buildup in which any cracked or open window will look as if your venting heat. if you can vent it downward into a basement or under your house thats ok. hope it helps.

A friend of mine who is an ex-cop told me they've had these for at least the last 10 years. They really can see right through walls of the average home. Sadly, there is little anyone can do counteract these devices.

Thermal scopes can't even see through your glass window let alone the walls. You cannot take what you see from action movies and apply it to the real world.

Do your research instead of posting information that is just going to misdirect people.

Don't believe me? Well find me a real example of a thermal sight imaging through a wall, or even glass for that matter. Thermal imagers can't even use glass for the lens because it is completely opaque in the thermal part of the spectrum.

How should you know? How about a basic understanding of physics. Failing that, why don't you call FLIR or one of the other major thermal imaging companies and ask them if its possible.

I think a good insulation of house with the technology for the space suits
the name escapes me at the moment and then maybe a mylar wrap off the house and if i was a super spy with a purposely built safe house?
I would make a 5 inch hollow space in the middle of a double blocked concrete wall what was kept at a regulated temperature.
Also they do have the same heat seeking equipment for see on Tv and no one is safe from it.

Here is an idea - Instead of hiding and taking such elaborate measures to try and stay concealed, you go out and confront the guy in your yard or sidewalk/street (whatever the case may be). I'm willing to bet that the neighbors would be a little unpleased with his presence as well. This isnt cheap or readily available equipment. I think extreme concern about this is a little - well - silly.

I think we should not be worried about this, it is about time. We should learn to live with all the new technology possible to us - since soon enough we might be in a situation where we become as the technology.

If we become pure spiritual beings, as some suggest, there will be no secrets. Everyone knows the contents of everyone others minds. Heat cameras or x-ray is still far from this, but necessary steps to learn to live in this new way. Just imagine how much impact recording devices have had (audio and image). Everything is public nowadays, not so many years ago something was just hearsay if you didn't actually witness it.
