Mine the border? Candidate says it's an option

This is a horrible suggestion. As much as I support a closed border, I would only suggest a big wall, towers, cameras, guards, etc. But to place landmines is a whole different thing all together. We're not in a war with Mexico, just trying to stop illegal entry. If we were to plant landmines then there would be no reason to believe that most Americans are just looking to protect their borders, which is what most do, but to start believing in an aggressive country that is just looking to harm others.

I'm going to burn in hell here on ATS for saying this, but I support this. Landmines. Mexico/US border. I'm on board with this idea.

I further support a Jurassic Park style border fence, National Guard units permanently stationed along the entire border (using UAV's to enforce national security on the border), and various other measures which would be considered 'extreme'.

Land mines??? To think of such a suggestion is total insanity. Then to top it off you want a Berlin type wall on the border!!! You desire to trade freedom for security, you deserve neither as a nation. The founding fathers warned you about this and yet you have paid no heed to it. The USA is no longer free nor brave, enjoy your captivity and loss of freedoms.

The laws regarding immigration into the US are more than adiquite to deal with the problem. Its a matter of inforcement. AZ has simply gone to do what Washington won't. Now you want fences and walls! You might want to change the name to USSA. Just like the USSR the wall will keep you in as well as keep others out.

Land mines are a bit extreme. But if you want to get kidnapped and tortured go to certain parts of Mexico as an American and you could be.

Amazing.. Every country in the world has trouble with illegal immigration.. Yet havent seen a single one of them propose such a barbaric method to keep people out... Only in amerika.. Guess they miss the Berlin Wall.. Or is that what the landmines are leading up to ? Land of the free indeed..

Since when did the penalty for crossing a border become death and/or loss of limbs?

This is one of the most grotesque things I've ever heard, and I predict it will never come to pass. I tell myself Americans aren't this vile. I hope I'm right.


ETA: If the Mexicans have crossed into Arizona or other border states looking for work and money then the solution is very simple and non-violent:

The people of Arizona and other border states should stop giving them work and money.

If that's what they are after, and it seems to be, they would move along.

Hey it's not such a bad idea, take the legs and give em to our vets and others who need em. Maybe even start a business near the border if this takes off, and it'd be more moral than your average business, warms the heart.

Option 1: Mine the border

Option 2: Dig a moat the length of the border , once filled with water - release the sharks with lasers attached to their frick`n heads .

Option 3: Machine gun nests and pill boxes .

Option 4: Chemical weapons



Each of these options ...... are as sane as the next .

Instead of spending billions on stupid ideas for defense of the border, how about spend just 1 billion and build a factory to make something useful in Mexico? That way the Mexicans would stay home and work in their own country.

It would save money and make everybody happy. Nobody needs to get killed.

Sounds good to me.
