There's a lot of ignorance happening in this thread starting with the title!
There's no MANDATE, no MAKING anyone do anything... it's to set up a council of people to look into health and education... wake up.

If the governments want to see us in good health, why do they allow all the crappy drinks and foods? There was a thread a few weeks ago about the US gov saying Doritos were a healthy food...
Still believe he wants your good? Well, he does, but not the one you think.

Another thought on this:
I pay an outrageous sum for health insurance premiums(self-employed biz owner for 25 years) for 2 very healthy adults every month "because" we all know what one health related catastrophy can cost....everything you have without insurance!
They USED TO gve me "wellness" allowances for my preventative yearly exams and a discount for my healthclub memberships...all gone.
If this flippin' administration REALLY wanted to "insist on health" a better way to do it MIGHT be to actually reward those who get it right rather than to continue to subsidize bad behavior and/or now insist on more "change?"
How about an incentive for those of us who pay in the long run for those those that DON'T take care of themselves? I personally don't care what people chose to do but do believe it's ass-backwards...
Also: we haven't even BEGUN to see the health-related issues that is oil-dump situation will NO DOUBT be a direct cause of...how will they insist that these folks who will almost assuredly have some respitory issues "get all healthy" when they will do little else for them?
I am finally fed up.

You know what , if America proved as a nation that it could look after its own health needs , and that none would deliberately give themselves a condition which cost the tax payer more money than the tax payer can afford then I would be totaly flabbergasted by this intrusion into the daily life of American people.
HOWEVER, while I understand that this does not apply to everyone in your nation there are still many times the normal amount of ridiculously obese people in America. Each of them probably costing thier weight in dollars to provide medical care for, not all of whom can afford to pay themselves . And Im not talking about people who put on a few over Christmas or thanksgiving holidays, Im talking about 30stone and upward of pure rippling, unchecked fat with NO reason. Not only are there more fat americans than there ought to be, but those people are pound for pound heavier than fat people from other nations. Me? Im getting a bit tubby for my liking, and have reigned in the consumption a little... I weigh 13stone, Im five foot ten, and I have a forty four inch chest and a thirty six inch waist. In America seems there are people who weigh TWICE that who are just thinking "Oh snap, seems as though I ought to cut out twinkies for a few weeks." BULL! That crap has to stop if people dont want a national intervention and it has to stop today ! But it wont because you know what? People are to used to the idea that you can do what you want, eat whatever you like, live however you want to live, and no one can do anything about it for fear of litigation. Well without wanting to sound to harsh about it , that ride is over.
