Becuase Hawking is involved I decided this would be Science rather than Religion.

A new article in Soda Head News and Huffingtonpost asks "Will Science Win Over Religion"
Its a long lasting question but somehow I think we are getting to the end of this road. I have always thought it would eventually and so does Stephen Hawking.

Hawking said

They made a human-like being with whom one can have a personal relationship. When you look at the vast size of the universe and how insignificant an accidental human life is in it, that seems most impossible

Renowned British physicist Stephen Hawking sat down recently with ABC’s Diane Sawyer and discussed the nature of the universe and the struggle to reconcile science with religion. Says Hawking:

and here

Stephen Hawking, known for his ground breaking work in physics, told Diane Sawyer that when it comes to reconciling science and religion, there is only one outcome: "science will win because it works." He also elaborated on his views about God.

Any thoughts?

LOL I guess Hawking isn't the genius they make him out to be after all.

This is JUST LIKE SAYING

"I think Israel will Win over Islam", or something absurd like that.

We have two options.

Either 1) MEET HALFWAY (Compromise)

or 2) The battle shall rage on for eternity

Stephen's shows are fun to watch for the entertainment value but the man's an idiot, brain size pf a pea.

All he has is book smarts cus that's all he can do. You would look like a genius too if all you did for 50 years was read books 24/7 and spend time thinking about them. The man has been proven wrong about many of his biggest theories.

Plus, the man is mad at God cus God made him the way he is.. all his thinking on this subject is bias.

Thanks to the internet, Hawking is almost certainly right.

Religion only works when a child is restricted to just one specific way of thinking. The internet acts as a connection to basically the entire collective of human experience and knowledge. If a child is exposed to this greater world before the religious perspective overrides and dominates the critical thinking of the child, then that child will 99/100 times choose to discard religion altogether.

This is a confusion of spirituality and religion. Spirituality is the counterpart to physical reality. Religion is merely a political hierarchy created by man for control of man.

We'll I don't think he has the brain size of a pea but even if he has it doesn't alter the fact about what he is saying. Sure he won't be around I'm guessing and perhaps nether will you or I or anyone on ATS right now. Somewhere sometime science will learn the secret of everything.

Simply moronic.

He doesn't just have "book" smarts, he's done vast amounts of research and theoretically work.

And he isn't "mad at God" - of all people, he would be the LEAST likely to blame "God" for his condition. Unlike you, he has the brains to understand that God doesn't "make" people have illnesses or genetic disorders.

Here's a new book that proves Hawking wrong in rigorous, mathematical terms: "The Mathematical Connection between Religion and Science."
smphillips.8m.com...
There is a form of knowledge that transcends science and which encompasses all religions. Phillips has discovered it. It is the knowledge of the nature of God.
It's utterly amazing and beautiful and a must read for all those who want to move beyond the bogus debate between religion and science. Only don't expect to finish the book in a week. This magnum opus (500 pages) with hundreds of diagrams will take you months to study. It presents the most convincing, mathematically rigorous evidence for the existence of God you will ever encounter.

this seems a bit obvious

1) an institution which makes its goal to know more and more and the universe

2) a series of institutions which claim they already know everything

hmm...

now science vs. spirituality? thats a whooole different matter, when we have the kind of technology which basically turns earth (at least) into our playground (nano-technology, virtual reality etc.) im thinking a lot of people will be getting very spiritual as a result of what "humanity" will have become

LOL

RELIGIOUS FREAKS attacking a scientist

amazing that people wanna talk about the Israel crew here on ATS but forgets to talk about the religious crews ...

stop being personal

in 50 years tops, we will be able to create a universe in a computer (some people believe in less than that)

Nice advertisment...did you rip that straight from the publishers website?...

If someone has discovered a mathematical proof for the existence of god i'm pretty sure the Pope would have mentioned it by now, it would be kind of a big deal for him and his fellow crazy cultists....

I feel sorry for him when he wheels up to the pearly gates and they tell him to turn around and consult his science book for the key to get inside!

What Mr hawk means is that Science will win against the "public" view of religion. As a scientist myself we know that all religions made within the last 74 000 years actually is science. The bible for example( wich is identical with the Egyptian scrolls, by a natural reason) Is a astrological science notebook. BUT the public dont know this, they actually think for example in the christian religion that JESUS was a person. They think Hourus was a person, krishna, ect ect..

Since the main facts within religion will be published within the next 18 months, Mr hawk is very right. Science will beat religion as the public eye see it.

Hi

Religion does not have fixed boundaries. It stands for an organized way to be spiritual.
This will never cease to exist because humans will always be attracted to groups who are like minded.

My personal opinion. If we do not destroy ourselves in the mean time.
Religion as well as science will learn they are both wrong. Religion for it is a human made
answer or tool for spiritualism. Science because it is a human made tool to make us understand the world we live in and beyond.

The key factor ? They are both human made

Humans are imperfect. We try to deny this by imagining we are corrupted by evil.
Imperfect can not create perfection. If we are lucky we will come close to it.
With all do respect. Every flaw that is called a sin can be explained by going back in time.
Where every sin gave us an edge and a bigger opportunity to survive.

Spirituality is and will be part of our lives. Maybe a day will come we can explain it with science but I don't think it will ever be an open book for those who use logic instead of
feeling and intuition. Even now people are capable of things science can only observe and wonder.

Who knows... The truth is out there.

Wow , you actually have the audacity to post a critique of the man , in which you admit that you find his disability fun to watch and entertaining .

Then you call him an idiot . Maybe there are those here who disagree with you , and feel that the pope and preachers are the real idiots .

I am not one of those . I don't think they are idiots at all . I believe that they damn well know that religion is a crock of bull , but it makes them money so they continue to peddle it .

Have you ever read any of his work ? Of course you haven't . It is obvious that you wouldn't make it thrugh the Introduction , much less the first chapter .

Anyone who finds amusement in the handicap of another is a sick individual .

You make me want to

Religion is going to destroy this planet . Just like it has been doing for thousands of years .

LOL

I never said I find his handicap amusing. You base your whole post on an assumption. It's the theories and ideas laid out in the tv shows I find entertaining.

And yes folks, I have read the mans works.. and others works who disagree with him.. and I do not think the man is all that like you people make out. Most of the research he has done has been theoretical, it in His Head.

It really doesn't matter to me which overtakes what because I shall bow down to neither. In my eyes both of these things are attempt to control man. The priest or pastor who looks down on you for not being perfect, then maybe a scientist telling you to get with the times and inplant the chip because its for the good of mankind.....

Ill use my own intuition about things

I disagree.

There is one simple reason why religion won't die out any time soon.

People hate change. Science is change. Religion is not.

It's very hard to get people to change. Especially if it's something unpopular.

Such as weaning an entire nation off of oil.

also people who champion science as the end all be all need to ask themselves if they should support people like this because all it seems to me that some professors think its a game or competition. i mean, does science really care to discredit religion? after all science only cares about what it can measure right?

Ancient people used to think stars were gods, the bible was supposedly written in ancient times. Every unexplained event in ancient times was an act of the God's. What I find truly unbelievable is how people still believe in it's lies.
