No, corporations are legal constructions capable of yielding power comparable or even greater than that other voluntary grouping of individuals working towards a common goal, government. Without the cronyism generated by the capitalist's runaway greed our government would be nothing like the monstrosity we have today, with our brand name politicians and the never ending parade of obtuse policies that only seek to serve on goal: to line the pockets of Wall Street, K Street, the City of London and every other financial city-state in our globalized world.

Turning over our government, legal systems and market regulatory abilities to our financial overlords is without a doubt an even more "retarded" idea than banning corporations. Austrian economics is nothing more than letting wolves right into the ol' hen hous.

I thought about something similar a long time ago.

You don't have to ban corporations tho. Only the multinationals.

Think about it...

Who is responsible for the moving of work over seas ? TPTB

Who has the capability ? The multinational .

Who let it happen ? The governments.

Yes...?

Why did the move them ? Money... By giving our jobs away for the slave wage abroad.

What do they gain ?

Profits... A lot of it.
Power... The control of the worlds commerce.

What do we loose ?

Jobs
A self sufficient economy.
The power to change quick because we don't have the people with knowledge anymore. Well.. we still have but not enough and not helping when disaster demands it. It takes a year to harvest a crop. No idea how long it takes to get our feet dry when electronics fry tho...

The new workers abroad loose ?

Farm land to grow their food. ( We eat it. Don't we ?


What do we gain by making multinationals illegal ?

We remove their power.

We can become a self sufficient economy again.

The land we use for our food can be returned. and they don't have to burn forests for land or extra fish because they are hungry. We should not stop trade or something. Just no longer by multinationals. Only by honest businesses.
Which we can avoid when they screw up.

We should stop consumerism right now. But dollar signs still... are in the eyes of the people. A tv should not break down after 5 years or a fridge or anything.
All the old products didn't I have a tv barely older then me.

Besides the fact that we the multinationals should leave us.

We should be mindful of our selves and what we contribute and what we make possible.
No we should not pay extra taxes. For what? the black hole it goes into ?

We should make them to make our products last long again. If it isn't possible, then we take a down. The old television was almost just as good.

No longer should we buy new when the old isn't broke.
No longer should we use trawlers to fish with. For those who don't know.
The continental shelves of the world were once beautiful biological habitats for countless of species. Now they are nothing more then a barren waste land.

We are killing our life sources. It should end...or we will.

A corporation is a person; right? I seem to recall reading that the 14th amendment gave corporations the rights of citizens. If that's where their power comes from, why isn't it considered slavery for one corportation to own another corportation? It just seems to me they are having their cake and eating it, too.

A judge just decided that precident in the 1800s
as I understand it thats what the problem is

by law the people who run a corporation face serious jeopardy if they make decisions that put any interests before the corporation
it is governed by the naked self interest of it's board and operating officers

so pb is true to form
if there was personal liability for doing the right thing
then they would NOT be so dangerous
you can't put a corporation in jail or inflict corporal punishment on it.

All of us are now ruled by the large corporations. They are scattered like little kingdoms, with their corporate flags and polished granite buildings (castles).

Nothing so far has changed in the past 1000 years - only the names and titles (again to keep you distracted).

We need to change who is running our lives and that can only begin once everyone wakes up and figures out who the real enemy is.

Not the little puppet on a string (Obama/another distraction/scapegoat).

Who then is the real enemy?

They are the men/women pulling the strings, making the puppet dance and talk, the people who own and run the corporations that have bought our government and our freedom.

If you cut out the cancer, you just don't take a little out, you get down to the deep root.

That is what we, the common person must do, get to the root cause (greed in the name of profit).

BP is just the latest example of the total disregard for all life the large corporations have.

For the destruction of our entire Gulf region, BP will get a small fine and slap on the wrists.

Why? They are a large corporation, and corporations run the show, make and break the laws - they are above the law.

We need to demand a stop to this insanity or we as a species may go the way of the dinosaurs.

It is absolutely insane for corporations to be above the law. It is insane that corporations place money, power, and greed above human lives. People are waking up and they are not happy. Change is necessary. Humans need to empower themselves, get rid of the cancer and begin anew.

The wolves are already in the hen house. Austrian economics are the only viable economics. Everything you call capitalism is socialism and is the reason for the problems you see. Your leftist masters have redefined the term and blamed free markets when we haven't had free markets in decades.

And by the way leftist and libertarian are a contradiction in terms. You can't be for liberty and government intervention at the same time. Government intervention into the economy is the problem and you people want more of it thinking that is the solution... Sigh

Corporations are government intervention/protectionism allowing people to harm others with limited liability. Take away that protection and make everyone liable for thier actions period and the free market will decide who is viable as people vote with there feet and wallets.

Right now politically connected corporations have an unfair advantage and have driven thier competition out of the market because of government intervention protecting thier markets for them. That is not capitalism it is socialism/fascism!

Unfortunately government isn't synonymous with socialism, so ultimately your argument is rendered moot. Furthermore, our corporate system is still a capitalist based model dedicated to private ownership and pursuit of capital regardless of the cost. Somebody has some economic theorists to brush up on.

Government has done it's fair share in promoting the corporatist cause, but only after the state became another marketplace to buy up, monopolize and control. But at the end of the day, there are far better chances of the general populace affecting change in the government as opposed to the halls of the multinational giants, and that fact alone is reason enough to not run to the open arms of the seemingly friendly Wall Street.

Oh, and why don't you google "leftist libertarianism" or "libertarian socialism" before you make ignorant dismissals. It's these modern lexicons that has you guys chasing your own tails.

A corporation is an unfair competition. It's ganging up against the individual and in the fascist world we do live in everything is angled pro-corporation. What is worse, the real ownership of the corporation is hidden. A corporation can't usually be in a monopoly position but nothing prevents individuals from owning all the corporations for an industry. On top of that, corporations are not as accountable as individuals. Passing the buck on accountability is a common problem in corporations and they live forever. While the CEO may be on the hook in some situations the stock holders aren't, yet they can influence decisions. There are a lot of reasons to eliminate corporations but the biggest one is to identify who actual owns the business. LLC or private corporations where the ownership is 100% declared may be OK, but for the most part, corporations should be 100% ownership transparent and heavily taxed to balance their advantages. If the corporations where simply shutdown the # of job and business opportunities would increase dramatically to fill the void.

Why not simply free the slaves by declaring ownership of corporations by other corportations to be null and void. A court gave corporations the rights of citizens based on the 14th Amendment. A court could just as easily declare that the 13th Amendment also applies to corportations. That would certainly make ownership transparent.

The crux of the matter is that corporations are business entities. They exist purely to make profit for their shareholders, executive officers, investors and stakeholders. Their only remit strictly speaking is to make as much money as possible whilst ensuring an efficient operation of the company and growth. Does this excuse a company from behaving in turpitude? No but one must recognise what sort of entity it is. The odd thing is if one looks at the genesis of all companies, they all began from one small shop or disparate elements (i.e. small groups of shops/businesspeople). Once a business grows to a certain size, how do you deal with it?

We should not be surprised that no respected or adequately resourced arm of government is effectively watching over the corporations

Break them down and regulate them VERY CLOSELY.

ENFORCE ANTI-TRUST LAWS AND INCREASE TARIFFS.

Not all corporations are bad....it's the TRANSNATIONAL CORPS that are killing the country....and many others.

Countries need to protect their economies....WE AREN'T DOING IT and many others aren't either.

We need to STOP ALL MERGERS of these massive corporations. IT SHOULD BE LAW.

Strange how suddenly - because of BP - Corporations are in the limelight more than ever.

The ideolgy behind them needs to be examined - they seem amoral, which makes them evil.
