According to the source, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Iranian Red Crescent vessels will carry "volunteer marines" of the Revolutionary Guards "who will teach the Israelis a lesson."

www.debka.com...

In addition, more ominously, the article quotes him as saying that the showdown between Turkey and Israel, "will change many issues in the world and mark the final countdown for Israel's existence. It shows that it has no room in the region and no one is ready to live alongside it."

It seems from this that perhaps Iran, and its newfound ally Turkey, feel now is the right time to directly confront Israel...not only in terms of the blockade of Gaza, but also to begin to bring about Israel's de-existence.

They were successful in baiting Israel into a bloody clash with the first Turkish convoy, and thus to create a groundswell of international condemnation against the Jewish State. It looks like the next step is to paint Israel into a corner against Iranian forces...from which it will fight its way out.

This would be used to either turn the world even more against Israel - or to be used as the pretext for an Iranian and/or Turkish first strike. If Israel sees that coming (which it likely would), then in fact they will be baited into acting against Iran...perhaps before they (and the US?) are fully ready.

It is difficult to say for sure exactly what angle the Iranians are playing here...but it certainly seems like they are steadily moving toward creating conditions that will result in direct military conflict with Israel - and possibly full a scale war that (they hope) would bring about the destruction of Israel.

I am interested in all thoughts and comments...what is Iran's real strategy here? Are we on the verge of a large scale Middle East war?

well damn
it's about time they light this firecracker
and see where it lands.

Rev Guard Marines onboard the next flotilla.
If that's the case, Israel's Navy will sink
the ships. Then there will be war.

Well since it's an israeli company that translates news into English, as proven after the false translation of the now famous "wipe israel off the map" comment, this may be the same type of situation.

Even if it's not, the 2nd largest Jewish population in the M.E. is in Iran. Remember that. They don't hate teh Jews, they hate the terrorist government of israel.

Again, they are not out to kill all the Jews in israel, no matter how the much the israeli propaganda will try to get you to think otherwise!

They are out to disband war mongering israeli government, as most of the world is!

Haha yeah first thing I thought was o great another mis quoted piece of information from iran...hm I wonder why?

I love when people on here still try to justify iran being so bad by saying their leader even wants israel wiped off the map even though it has been proven by many colleges and countries across the globe that's not what was said. All you jave to do is a quick google search and find professors, colleges, or even the german government debunking it...

Perhaps there was a good reason for the Hebrews to have been cast to the four winds so very long ago. Perhaps it's because they can't play nicely with their neighbors. And perhaps it's time to pay the price for that inability to learn despite centuries of opportunity. Sometimes "tough love" is the only solution. Looks like it's time to get tough.

You think Iran is baiting Israel??

Didn't I read somewhere that Israel has done a deal with the Saudis to allow a clean run for Israel Fighter Jets into Iran???

To me it seems Israel is baiting Iran...

The meeting this thread is about took place 8th January.

This is OLD news and has been discussed at lenght already

I do like this bit though that is recent from post,
debkafile's intelligence sources report
AS details of this scheme are drawn up in Istanbul, Israeli leaders are spending hour of hour, day after day, quibbling over the format of an inquiry commission for studying the legal aspects of the hapless commando raid they ordered against the Mavi Marmara on May 31.

Can't believe this hasn't happened yet.

I'm done obsessing about the start of some Armageddon. Between North Korea, Israel, Iran, BP's mess, and June 21st, I'm mentally exhausted. I certainly hope this is the final countdown, I'm tired of waiting.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN BABY. BELIEVE IT.

Hi virgom129:

We meet again...

This news is probably only about a week old. If you have a closer look at the article (dated June 10, 2010), it says the meeting took place on "Tuesday, Jan. 8".

This is obviously just a typo. January the 8th was a Friday...June 8th was in fact a Tuesday. In addition I do not think there were any blockade-busting flotillas underway back in January.

I certainly would not dismiss your who-is-baiting-who remark from a little earlier though. There is probably gamesmanship happening on both sides.

Although, sending flotillas with military on-board ready to "teach lessons" would seem to be pretty direct baiting (if he really said this).

And you may also be right that Saudi Arabia is dangling bait of their own in re-announcing that the Israeli's can fly over on their way to striking Iran. There are many players in this little piece.

I see a few comments that simply dismiss the information because it is from Debkafile. I am afraid I cannot vouch for the newsource per se...any more than I can vouch for Fox News, CNN, MSNBC or virgom129.

I only quoted this source and asked for people's comments. In my experience, not that I have done exhaustive research on the matter, Debkafile has sometimes been on to things ahead of other news sources...and of course I understand their slant is pro-Israel.

What is that old saying? Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that people aren't out to get you...

Yes, I think its all a big game planned well in advance by many sides...
It all seems just a little to convenient to me....

I'm not pro Israeli as you can guess, but I also can not believe what they did was an accident..
There are sinister plans afoot...

Edited because I realised you were posting about Iran ship, no Turkish...

Yes, I have picked up on the idea that you may not be a big Israel supporter at this time

Just FYI, whether or not it is true that the Iranian President made these remarks recently, quite a number of other sites are reporting that he did:

israelinsider.ning.com...

The Jerusalum Post quotes him as saying, "They were holding up the flag of the devil itself.” "The flotilla raid", Ahmadinejad said, “has actually rung the final countdown for its [Israel’s] existence. It shows that it has no room in the region and no one is ready to live alongside it. Actually, no country in the world recognizes it, and you know that the Zionist regime is the backbone of the dictatorial world order.

www.jpost.com...

CNN reports that "Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the killing of nine Turkish activists by Israeli naval commandos aboard one vessel in the flotilla "will change many issues in the world" and marked the "final countdown" for Israel's existence.

ac360.blogs.cnn.com...

So, all those turning their noses up at the Debkafile source used originally...are you saying everybody got the quote wrong?

According to this source, in 2005 Ahmadinejad didn't exactly say that Israel should be wiped from the face of the earth...only that "this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time" Ummm...which would require some kind of conflict to end the existence of Israel, so, what's the diff exactly?

en.wikipedia.org...

Be you anti-Israel, anti-Palestine, or anti-Iran...I am still asking, what do you think Iran's strategy is here?

You quoted Jpost? They are even more Pro Israel..

BTW, I'm not anti Israel
If they (the goverment) do good I'll praise them.
If they do bad, I'll flame them..

I have flamed stuff done by all countries, including my own (australia).

It is only when I post something against Israel that I am called ANTI...
Do Israel now own the word "anti" too?

Whats Iran doing???

Developing nuclear capabilities, the same as Israel has done...

Only difference is they (Iran) admit to it....

If my neighbour hated me and he owned a gun, I would buy one too...
