Chaos, Anarchy To Reign If Paterson Shuts Down NY

Chaos and anarchy. That's what New York Gov. David Paterson is warning if he's forced to shut down the government in a few days.

The clowns in the state Legislature, now deadlocked for 71 days on the budget, are ready to take down the "big tent" and bring state government to a standstill. At least that's what Paterson thinks.

This (interestingly) isn't on the main page of the NY Post or NY times.

(...however, if you tune into Real Wives of NJ Housewives, you'll find that one of them is in bankruptcy and selling her home, omg! Front news baby!)

Back to the article: Apparently no one can agree about the NYS budget in regards to:

$750 million in new cuts like:
* Delaying the 10 percent welfare grant increases
* Withholding welfare from those who don't comply with employment requirements
* Reducing the personal needs allowance of people in drug and alcohol programs

Those not in favor are probably representing special interest groups and Gov. Patterson is putting his foot down after all. Hopefully it doesn't get to this but he warns of:

closing all state parks, motor vehicles offices, courts, and even the lottery. Public assistance payments would not be made and unemployment payments might also be held up.

OH NOOOOOOO, we won't be able to go to the parks!!!!

There will not be any problems if the city shuts down for a couple of days.

You just may not be able to buy lottery or go the some parks.

Our government shut down for a few days back in the 80's and everything was ok then too.

He is just throwing out gloom and doom like a lot of other people.

I will preface by saying I dont think it will happen-
However,
If you think shutting down NY for a few days would not have a major effect, you are grossly underestimating the importance of that city.

Shutting NY down for a few days would have a MAJOR ripple affect across this country, and possibly the world.
