Its funny you should ask! My partner and I have been "experimenting" with different alternatives to energy, hydrogen generator, a VAWT, and it still boils down to oil! The products we used to make our generator involves oil, our VAWT, batteries, same thing. Everything involves oil! I don't think there is a way to escape it. It takes oil to produce the crops needed to make biodiesel and alternative fuels. We'd essentially have to go back a 100 years and its too late for that I believe.

Some groups have been comming forward for decades (even before we started using petrol oil). Hemp oil was used before petrol oil.

You want to place "blame"? Blame the oil tycoon lobbyists who had hemp outlawed.

So your saying that we are all the victims?

And that the masses don't have any sense at all, that TPTB have complete dominion over the masses, like a cattle being feed in a barn?

No one has any freedom or choice or freedom of thought?

Well I guess we are all doomed then.

Actually not, the Amish live without any oil, drive horses and buggies, yes it's a slower lifestyle, but it's a choice.

People choose a certain lifestyle and the one the people choose now involves the use of oil.

Tesla proved over 100 years ago we could all have safe never ending free electricity and the Gov and Rich shut him down for Greed.

Don't anyone feel even the slightest bit guilty for this mess we are in.. we had no control.

That is what the powers that be want you to believe.. it's brainwashing.. don't fall for it!

No I don't think it is to late.

Maybe it's time to take some good from the past and mesh it with today.

How many people would like to lead a slower paced lifestyle?

How many people are burned out today in this so call "Rat Race" and epidemic paranoia?

People like you are the future, that was the whole point of this thread, not to actually lay blame, but to promote thought.

The Amish may not use oil for their daily living but when they get mail or ship anything, it involves oil.

how the hell does it set us back 100 years?

if your GROWING the oil its a perpetual process, so what does it matter? i understand if we had to SOURCE it like we do now that would be a setback. but if we can keep growing it whats the big deal if we use oil in everything?

You said it yourself. No one can live without oil these days. Unless you tell me that the Amish don't use any plastics?

BTW, my brother lives in Amish country and I know for a fact that they use latex in paint (oil), plastics (oil), they build houses constructed of materials made from oil. Etc.

People choose a certain lifestyle and the one the people choose now involves the use of oil.

And it has been stated, quite a few times actually, that hemp oil can be used in ALL the products that use petrol oil. Why do you keep ignoring this?

how many shekels of silver do you guys want to bet me that those same Amish folks your speaking of burn hemp oil in their lamps?

I think that no matter what we do oil will still be somehow be involved in our lives, but the key is to reduced it significantly.

How many days I think to myself, wouldn't it be nice to just toss a single capsule in the my gas tank and just fill it with water.

I sure wish Tesla would have gotten some of his better discovery's mainstream.

Good points, reduce or actually replace crude oil with hemp oil. hmmm interesting.

Henry Ford was a huge proponent of hemp, in fact he had thousands of acres dedicated to it in Dearborn, Michigan in the early 20 century.

Hemp oil is a key.

So how do we get everyone to switch?

According to the EPA...the Amish live a little to lavishly.

Amish Farming Draws Rare Government Scrutiny

Weird they're concerned about algae blooms in the Chesapeake but the EPA doesn't also visit the largest bio heating oil plant which also happens to occupy Lancaster County PA. Blaming it on the centuries old farming techniques of the Amish.

Strange that the algae blooms in the Chesapeake are "phenomenally the largest" ever seen. Did the Amish multiply?

It's not so much of how we get everyone to switch, it's more how do we get the petrol companies to switch.

Because hemp oil can already be used with our current technology.

Biodiesel for diesel engines. Ethanol/Methanol for regular engines.

All other oil products can just be replaced with hemp oil with already known and available technologies.

How do we get everyone to switch? Tell the PTB that we aren't going to buy their petrol anymore and we want to use hemp. But good luck with that as the PTB make too much money on oil.

As far as Ford is concerned, he proved that an automobile can be made exclusively with hemp.

Ford recognized the utility of the hemp plant. He constructed a car of resin stiffened hemp fiber, and even ran the car on ethanol made from hemp. Ford knew that hemp could produce vast economic resources if widely cultivated.

www.examiner.com... -hemp

So, back to the original post. It is these tycoons who are to blame. NOT those who want to use alternative oil.

No we are not responsible for the oil leak, but you can make the claim that if we used alternative energy or had a lower demand BP may not have been drilling there in the first place. There is no doubt that the United States is increasingly a oil hog.

It's easy enough for some of us that have been around for a while to see the changes in the United States. Cars have been around for ages, but at one time they weren't used for every single trip like they are now. People use to walk the three houses down to their neighbors instead of driving. Kids use to ride their bikes instead of asking their parents to take them everywhere. Through laziness the oil consumption in this country is skyrocketing.

Try to ride a bike for transportation today and see what happens. People start asking you if you lost your license and wonder if your having financial problems. Others will also assume your poor, A DUI offender, or perhaps homeless It's really gotten to the point that not partaking in the culture of laziness is socially unacceptable. Your basically an outcast if you don't drive everywhere. You become that weird guy that people laugh at.

People will never admit this. As most will simply say they wouldn't be able to function without their car. Despite the fact that billions of people around the world do so everyday. They will claim that they would be a prisoner in their home as they would have no way of going any where. Despite the fact that God gave them a basic means of transportation.

Now I do know that some rural individuals really are in the middle of no where and need transportation, but they are in the minority. As most trips taken in this country are 3 miles or less.

Really we are a country that is delusional about the need for cars and oblivious to the effects of the oil addiction through laziness on our environment and even our health.

to get everyone to switch we must pass legislation allowing farmers to grow industrial hemp domestically.

once that happens we can start talkin .30-.40 cents per gallon.

the funny part is that it only works in those old "gas guzzler" engines

oh the irony.

say goodbye to smogtests too because it burns clean

I have nothing to do with it, in Kuwait we have plenty of oil! so that's my reason, however because you guys saved us from Saddam I am secondly removed as a conspirator because your tanks and stuff burned fuel plus C130's, Jets which use JP4 very very expensive and we sell our petrol on the open market although we are contractually obligated with percentage to USA.

& I had no idea people were so lax about drilling procedure/s on deep water rigs.

so out of 100% I accept 10% responsibility for disaster...

about the same as a flat tire in car

Enviromentalists are to blame.

Why aren't we drilling in ANWR which is a vast wasteland?

Enviromentalists forced them to drill 50 miles offshore in mile deep water, because if there was an accident it would be too far away from the shoreline.

Nice thinking.

I think everyone is getting the point of this whole mess, it's not just one person blame, or group, it's about how we are functioning as a society.

It seems that if something is out of sight, it's out of mind, until the SHTF, then everyone is pointing fingers.

As long as we learn from our mistakes then we become wiser, but if we repeat then it's just blind ignorance.

Keep in mind though that oil companies have secured land drilling but save them as a strategy, and prefer to drill offshore. Once price per barrel skyrockets they change strategies.... This is how it goes so blame environmentalists if you want, if it wasn't for them you would have a rig wherever oil is located and worth drilling depending on size of reserve.

The sad thing is TPTB aren't going to learn from their mistakes as they can throw gobs of money at the problem to make it go "away".

No. We will be a petrol oil dependant country until the oil runs out or we have a revolution (doesn't have to be violent revolution).
