I was an hydraulic and airframe specialist in the Navy. I even worked on a B117 during Desert Storm in an emergency situation.

I repaired a bullet hole in an F111 coming back from Libya. So I know a few things about aircraft.

I imagine I heard the aircraft approaching because the sound echos of the surround 14000 ft peaks of the Sangre De Christo mountain range. I estimate it to be about 500 ft alt, and about 1000 ft away from me.

At first I thought it might be the Aurora again, as I really want to get a pic of that, but when I got the picture loaded into the computer, I realized it was just a B!. Just a B1? It's still a rare photograph.

You thought the sound was 1000ft away from you? Sounded that close, eh?

Nice photos,

The B-1 you took photo's of could have been on a training sortie, on a ferry flight, travelling to an airshow.

Are you sure that what you thought you saw was the 'Aurora' ?

No, I'm not sure it was the Aurora, but the picture of the Aurora looks closest to it, until I saw your avatar.

Comparing the picture I showed of the Aurora, and your avatar, the wings were more like your avatar, where the delta wing started further back.

The vertical rudders where angled like your avatar but spaced further apart, but not quite as far as the picture I posted.

When I first saw the plane, it was banking and about eye height. I was driving off the mountain, through switchbacks, and saw it just before switching back. I had to stop the truck, get my camera, turn it on, set it to the right focus setting, and by that time, it was disappearing into the clouds.

It was flying VERY low. Maybe 200 ft, coming up the mountain through a canyon. It was probably only 500 ft away from us.

The cockpit was apparent, but almost metallic. My first thought was it might be unmanned.

The aircraft was the most futuristic I've every seen, and looked completely capable of flying into space. It was large, like the B1.

The engines exhaust were square, but not quite as flat a the pic I showed.

No, I saw it. With my own two eyes.

The thing shook the whole valley coming past me. I would guess 200-300 miles per hour. Slow and close enough that I could run to my truck, get my camera, turn it on, set the focus to infiinty, zoom in 10x and snap the shot.

Every year on opening day for the Texas Rangers baseball club, the stadium gets a flyover from a B1-B from nearby Carswell AFB. I happened to be outside doing some geocaching one year when it came overhead. That ship has the most distinct engine-sound to it. One of those that's more felt than it is heard. I can only imagine what thoughts go through the minds of those poor people on the business end of it

Yes, when these large planes are flying low and slow, they make alot of sound.

When they are flying fast, they are usually very high, and you don't hear them until they are past.

This B1 was very low, and very slow.

I think there is a secret underground base in the Sangre De Christo range. I actually think that the entire Rocky Mts' have a connected underground network. The mtn tops around here are loaded with radar and microwave antennas.

Most of the Sangre De Cristo range is owned by Forbes. He has a huge, I mean HUGE, ranch up there. It's all private property and very secretive, with gated communities, etc.

The San Luis Valley, is basically the backside of Cheyenne Mountain. Sand Dune national park, I believe, is actually tailings from the tunnels they have dug. 1000's of miles of them.

And there is some strange stuff they do in those tunnels. San Luis Valley is full of cattle mutilations, UFO reports. My wife saw a UFO, a huge silver diamond, and she hates it (or laughs at me) when I talk about UFO's. She doesn't laugh at me anymore.

And if any has spent any time in CO Springs, that place is just creepy.
