Nelson thinks Pentagon should step in on cleanup of BP oil disaster

www.wmnf.org

Florida’s senior Senator Bill Nelson is calling for the command and control structure of the Pentagon to help coordinate the cleanup of the Gulf

“Just know that you’ve got some folks in Florida who are mad as wet hens right now. We’ve got to get this command and control straightened out where communication is going to everybody at the local level.”

Nelson made those remarks this morning during the Senate’s Homeland Security and Government Oversight Subcommittee, which is determining the effects of the oil disaster on Gulf States, coastal cities and private companies. One reason Floridians are mad, Nelson says, is because the state was not notified by the unified command about incoming oil.

The Democrat warns that the oil could spread beyond the Panhandle to the Keys and the east coast of the state.

Nelson wrote a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano complaining about reports of journalists being denied access to sites contaminated by oil. Nelson reminded Napolitano that Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen has issued directive allowing reporters uninhibited access to anywhere they are doing operations unless there are safety or security problems.

So, I just happened to be walking down the street and noticed a TV in a store window with CBS News tuned it. It was Katie Couric, talking about Florida's senior Senator, Bill Nelson. The Florida Senator is saying that the Pentagon needs to take over full control of the oil spill.

Why the Pentagon? That seemed a little odd and I automatically thought of a few members on ATS who were postulating about this oil spill being used to declare martial law or some other sinister NWO policy. Could this be the start of it?

Nelson sent a letter to Janet Napolitano, the Secretary of Homeland Security, that can be read here: www.wmnf.org...

I don't trust the gov't lately so I don't think having the "pentagon" step in on BP would do any good. Maybe have some indepent people help...

I apreciate your concern and general mistrust of the U.S. government, but in all honesty I wouldn't care if they enlisted ex-Khmer Rouge loyalists if they knew how to clean this mess up. If the Pentagon has the logistical capability, them let 'em have at it...

i'm with Legion2112 on this - we need to do something!
anything!
anyone!

BP is NOT doing it.
they have a great smokescreen, it seems to be, increasingly as the days pass since the explosion on April 20.

i just posted a thread about Kevin Costner's testimony before congress, yesterday.

why not let congress take Mr. Costner's machines and clean up the water?
i think that it is going to end up on our shoulders, regardless.

and it should.
it is our waters and we leased the drilling rights to BP/Transocean.

BP might profess to care and concern but i don't buy it.
these aren't their waters
these aren't their people
these aren't their wildlife

i just don't feel it coming from that direction - not at all!

we have every reason to DISTRUST BP - and our reasons for distrusting our own government are not nearly as concrete or PROVEN.

besides that...aren't we the people supposed to be the government?
can we not trust ourselves to take care of business, once again?

Trust me, the Pentagon would only make things much worse, even if they don't initiate martial law or forced evacuations. For one thing, they create so much red-tape and it would cost 100x more than it should. The Pentagon is only useful in fighting wars, with everything else, they are a hindrance.

This is not even counting the notion that the military should only be used for military operations in defense of the country. When you blur that line, you are asking for trouble.

We have all of these policies in place to keep the military away from civil affairs for a reason and that reason is freedom and liberty. Of course, that line has been blurred already but we don't want to bring some of the last barriers down.

Also, it's important to note that our military is already stretched far too thin. We don't have enough military to fight both of our wars of aggression, staff our empirical overseas bases and clean up the biggest environmental disaster in world history. Our military might be tough but they aren't magic.

Something like that might happen. Saw a rumor that foreign troops might be invited. I really don't think they will be cleaning up the mess.
Our guys can sure do it.

What I have to wonder about is why all those countries who offered to send tankers to suck up the oil have ot been allowed to do so.
I understand that there is a law called the "Jones Act" that forbids foreign ships from working in our waters. HOWEVER - this is and Emergency situation and if our esteemed law makers would just use a little Logic, they would have passed a resolution allowing it.

I wrote to my rep and senator asking this. I guess they are busy now. Why hasn't this been shouted to them for the past month?

but maybe

JUST MAYBE

this is the opportunity for turning it all back around...
the way it SHOULD BE.

that's just my vision.

we've got to start somewhere or else resign ourselves to the eventual sub-extinction of a certain sort of human being - the ATS kind of folk, if you dig.

i'm not much for resignation but i am a big fan of hope.

I say kill two birds with one stone.
Get BP to fly the illegals leaving Arizona and hire them to clean up the tar balls all along the coast.

What can brown do for YOU?

I think we would have less a chance of cleaning the oil with the Pentagon than with BP and there would be a much, much higher price to boot. That high price wouldn't be monetary alone but also freedom, liberty and security.

I could even venture to suggest that this is what TPTB want. If the Pentagon took control over the oil, then we are only a breath away from martial law and/or other Draconian measures.

I have always said that when the government finally clamps completely down on the people, it will because the people begged for it and there will be no "sudden push".
