A prominent Houston attorney with a long record of winning settlements from oil companies says he has new evidence suggesting that the Deepwater Horizon's top managers knew of problems with the rig before it exploded last month, causing the worst oil spill in US history. Tony Buzbee, a lawyer representing 15 rig workers and dozens of shrimpers, seafood restaurants, and dock workers, says he has obtained a three-page signed statement from a crew member on the boat that rescued the burning rig's workers. I think now we will all learn what really happened to the rig that caused the largest oil spill in history, mainly because people are trying to isolate themselves from it as much as possible. Many people who are familiar with and worked on the Deepwater Horizon say that it WAS in "deep water" due to all it's troubles and problems that apparently BP failed to address and/or fix. I think the above lawsuit (obviously) is just one of many that will ensure over the next few months & years. It always saddens me that a company will allow others to die then and only then, attempt to fix the problem.

Hopefully they can seal this off and we can begin to really invest in new energy sources once & for all.

Ah Lawsuits - America's Favourite Pastime.

Frankly, I would have been surprised if there had not been any lawsuits at all.

The real sadness is that most of these cases will be settled OUT of court with a gag order imposed. We will still never hear the truth (or other versions of the truth).

Indeed true. They are served up more money than they have seen in their life then told in order to accept it, they must never say nothing else about it.

Sounds like "hush money" to me.

And now the big money oil folk starts using their wealth & influence to protect their mistakes by using their own armies now. This may get interesting if they ever have to do actually start defending anything.

BP failed to address and/or fix.

Why is this BPs fault.

The rig was not owned by BP.

If there was problems with the rig its the rigs owners(Transocean) fault.

Transocean may have hid all the problems from BPs engineers.

This lawyer is only going after the deep pockets hoping to get more money.

and yes i believe that there was problems with the rig.
one the safety equipment that should have safely diverted the gas from the blowout failed.
this was part of the rig and owned by the rig owner.
two the safety equipment that should have prevented the gas from getting to the generators on the rig failed and this equipment was also part of the rig and owned by the rig.

none of this blowout was one companies problem all the companies involved are responsible in one way or another.

Added to the above the BOP failed the supplier or any company that modified it may be responsible for that.
The government may also be responsible for not checking it for compliance.

BPs engineers. failed to do there job.
The cementing crew failed to check there work.

In the oil hearings this week, All the other majors were saying they would not have designed this well like BP, and that BP design didn't meet industry norms. This may have been the real fault.
but not the ONLY FAULT.

BP leased the oil platform. They only leased it from another company to do their work of getting oil. The operation of the oil rig being contracted out, did not exempt BP from the responsibility of any damage, accident, spill or otherwise should it have happened.

And it did.

Transocean was contracted to drill the well.

Thanks for the correction, I deleted that. However, BP was responsible for any problems under & within the contract.

he was the BP man, and had higher authority than they did as BP was the largest percent owner

It wasn't clear what Mr. Harrell objected to specifically about BP's instructions, but the rig's primary driller, Dewey Revette, and tool pusher, Miles Randall Ezell, both of Transocean, also disagreed with BP, Mr. Brown said. However, BP was in charge of the operation and the BP representative prevailed, Mr. Brown said.

"The company man was basically saying, 'This is how it's gonna be,' " said Mr. Brown, who didn't recall the name of the BP representative in question.
