This pretty much just happened. I was sitting on a couch/loveseat on my laptop, reading/posting on ATS, CBC news was on the television. I was getting ready to go upstairs. I remember looking at my backdoor and seeing it was unlocked, I figured it was unlocked because my brother was still out and would be home shortly, I didnt think much more of it.

I went to my pantry and grabbed some water bottles, Went to the kitchen to get a snack, but decided to go get some chips from my car. I carried the water bottles upstairs and grabbed my car keys. As I went back downstairs and approached the backdoor, it was now locked. I thought maybe my brother had came home, but he had not. I went out to my car and grabbed the chips and came back inside. I left the door unlocked because my brother was going to be home soon.

I went upstairs and asked my parents if they had recently locked the backdoor, they both said they didnt because my brother was not home yet. I told them the story and they both had no explanation. My mom said thats what eyewitnesses can sometimes by untrustworthy because they see things one way, but it may have been different.

I swear I saw it unlocked and then locked.
One explanation could be that I saw it unlocked, locked it without realizing it and then was suprised when I saw it locked. Although I dont recall going that close when I saw the door unlocked.

My brother and I just went and checked around the inside of the house to make sure no one snuck in. We did not find anyone.

Has this or anything similar happened to anyone else here? Or are there other similar stories of it?

Cheers

1 - Are you on any medication, recreational drugs, alcohol, or any other mind altering stubstance?
2 - Were you on any of the above?
3 - Is your brother older/younger?
4 - Where was your brother and when did he reportedly return home?
5 - Could there be a possibility that he is messing with you?
6 - Could it be possible that he came in, grabbed something, and then locked it?

As you may or may not be able to tell from my questions, more detail is required from your accounting of what happened.

edit:

7 - Are there any other members of your household? If so, please describe (birth order if applicable, gender, age, etc).
8 - Has this ever happened before? Or anything else similar to this incident?

Please Advise. Thank you.

For question number 6, I forgot to add:

6 - Could it be possible that he came in, grabbed something, and locked the door on his way back out?

And I also wanted to add:

9 - What happened when he came home? You said the door was left intentionally unlocked because your brother was out. Well after you found it locked, and he came home, do you remember unlocking it? Did he have to knock on the door or ring the bell?

How old are your parents? My mother lives with me and my son. She is 75, and she constantly locks me outside. I never go outside the house without my keys because of this.

1. No, I had been out camping all weekend and had drank alcohol the night prior/early this morning. But was sober during this event.

2. Not at the time, no.

3. Younger, im 18, hes 16.

4. He was at a movie, id say 15-20 minutes after. (approx)

5. Id say no. But there's always a possibilty.

6. Id say no again. I asked him when he came upstairs if he had just got home, he said he had. Then I told him about what happened.

7. My dad, born in 1952, I believe. My mom born in 1960.

8. Nothing like this, I dont believe. I thought I might have seen a shadow person in the same house years ago, but im not 100 percent sure on that.

Editing in number 9.

9 - What happened when he came home? You said the door was left intentionally unlocked because your brother was out. Well after you found it locked, and he came home, do you remember unlocking it? Did he have to knock on the door or ring the bell?

When I found it locked, I unlocked it, looked for my brother in the bathroom close to the door, he was not there. His shoes were not there either. I walked out to my car, didnt see him, grabbed the chips, came back inside, left the door unlocked and went upstairs, I presume when he came home he just opened the unlocked door.

As for the edited in number 6 part, I could ask him tomorrow if he brought keys with him, but I dont think he would have. I have no reason to suspect my brother was behind this at all. He came home 15-20 minutes after and told me he had just gotten home before I mentioned anything about the lock to him.

Well, strange things do happen to people.

It may be that you locked it and forgot.

On a side note, did you know that you posted this on your 1 year anniversary of joining ATS?

My mother is 49 and my father is 57. They were both in their room upstairs watching TV. I asked them if either had locked the backdoor recently and my mom said no because my brother was still out.

I also likely would of noticed either of them going downstairs as I was only upstairs for a short amount of time. I also think I might of heard the door open and close if my brother was to walk in and grab something, etc.

Cheers

I actually joined R.A.T.S for the first time today without realizing this. But then I saw today's date and noticed that it had been one year, haha.

Kinda odd this happened on the one year anniversary.

Cheers

There does exist possibilities that it could be something paranormal..

Some people refuse to ever even believe in anything paranormal, but the people that have a higher apptitude and understand higher things know better..

And also there is plenty of evidence over the ages in all sort's of forms.. pictures, etc... plenty of hoaxed incidences, but plenty of unknowns too...

I wouldn't worry about what happened in your instance, but I would be paying attention from now on anything happening further...

And if you really want to check things out, you could research the known history of the house you live in and even the land, property, area history to see any historical events occuring there..

cheers

I was sober when this happened, so im not sure what you're trying to get at..

If the second comment was directed at me, I thought this was a proper forum for me to post this.

Thanks for the response.

Im usually open to this type of stuff, its the first time that I can recall something like this happening to me. It might be my imagination playing tricks on me, but I swear I saw the door unlocked, so I dont know what to say.

Im not really that familar with the house, I believe the family that lived their before had 3 boys, their names were written in concrete in the backyard, I met one of them once, he was working at a local park and nothing seemed weird about him at all. I believe a Greek family owned it at some point also, ill need to clarify that with my dad later.

Cheers

Im sorry if i seem close minded because i dont think a door being locked is a big deal..perhaps if it happened all the time or only when his brother was out i would be more inclined to believe it was a paranormal force trying to establish contact. a one time instance is hardly reason to take up bandwith here in my humblest of opinions

And also there is plenty of evidence over the ages in all sort's of forms.. pictures, etc... plenty of hoaxed incidences, but plenty of unknowns too...

I agree i just ask for a little more in the form of evidence then a locked door on a singular occasion

I wouldn't worry about what happened in your instance, but I would be paying attention from now on anything happening further...

agree totally, earned a star there

And if you really want to check things out, you could research the known history of the house you live in and even the land, property, area history to see any historical events occuring there..

and again i agree you proved you earned your star

10 - Why doesn't your brother have a key?

11 - What's the crime situation in your area? If I were you, (and I am open to paranormal experiences too), I would start being a little more vigilant and leaving the door LOCKED. Why? Let's say it IS a paranormal event, and ask ourselves, WHY? Why was it locked? If it is an unexplained something that has locked it, what are they/it/whatever trying to tell you? Maybe someone might try and rob a house in your neighborhood or something.

Try to keep a closer eye on it and hopefully supply your brother with an extra key.

Keep us posted on this and note - in detail - any changes to your normal routine.

Stay safe....and sane.

Deadbolt or handle?

Weird stuff happens. Our minds play tricks on us. If I posted a thread every time I thought I had left the door locked/closed a window I would have a million posts by now.

10. He does, he doesnt carry it all the time, my parents usually leave the outside lights on and a door open until everyone is home or they know that person has a key.

11. The crime situation is pretty low id say where I live. Alrighty, ill give that a try. I usually make sure the doors are locked, especially when im the last up and going to bed, but since my brother was not home and I knew that he would be home soon, it was left open, like usual.

Cheers

It was a deadbolt, so either my mind was playing tricks on me, someone or with a key locked it from the outside or someone or something locked it from the inside.

Ill recheck with my brother when he comes home, but I dont expect him to tell me anything different.

Cheers
