Israeli Navy Officers Revolt Against Government Handling of Commando Raid

They said Sunday the raid was doomed from the beginning, and should be blamed on whoever ordered it and the top commanders. It was wrong for the government to blame the organizers of the flotilla, they said.

In a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi the group of top Israeli Navy reserves officers publicly called on Israel to agree to an external independent investigation into the events of last week.

The Navy officers said, "We believe that the operation ended in a disaster on a military and diplomatic level."

"We disagree with the widespread claims that this was the result of an intelligence rift," the officers said. "In addition, we do not accept claims that this was a 'public relations failure' and we think that the plan was doomed to failure from the beginning."

"First and foremost, we protest the fact that responsibility for the tragic results was immediately thrust onto the organizers of the flotilla," wrote the the reserve officers who served as commanders of Navy ships. "This demonstrates contempt for the responsibility that belongs principally to the hierarchy of commanders and those who approved the mission. This shows contempt for the values of professionalism, the purity of weapons and for human lives."

Wow!! Discuss.

My take on dealing with the Middle East is by far the most practical and pragmatic, and that is to not involve ourselves in problems that are not ours to begin with.

We shoot ourselves in the foot constantly by trying to be the worlds ambassador and/or imperial power. I am not pro Israeli or pro Palestinian, I am just pro ME, so I am not needlessly encumbered with emotional pleas and worthless semantics.

Hats off to the Israelis who penned the memo detailed in your OP

Israel is famous for getting a few officers, officials or diplomats to condemn the latest ill-fated Israeli actions and then getting those dissenters to blame a "scape-goat" who will essentially take the fall, thereby relieving Israel of any accountability.

I'm not saying that this is the situation here, but Israel has done it many times before, including the attack on the liberty and the recent war with Hezbollah.

If this is a sincere condemnation on behalf of the officers mentioned, then my hats off to them for stepping up and stepping out to voice their opinions. I have a feeling though that this will only result in a scape-goat taking the fall for this, thereby letting Israel off the hook... Again.

Looks like they are trying to portray someone as incompetent,
my feeling is Israel got the exact result they planned for..and remember, they had weeks to plan this raid.

Explanation: The source article in question doesn't disclose the journalist who wrote it and it doesn't provide any link or pictures to the ORIGINAL letter supposedly sent to the Israeli authorities. It doesn't even name any Israeli Naval officers [of worth] who are protesting about what has happened.

Personal Disclosure: When more credible evidence comes to light I may make a credible comment on it. Until then, this reaks of FALSE Israeli apologetics and I can only guess at what agenda the unnamed author is playing at???

This all looks like agenda advancement to me.
There are no random acts in politics they say.

This article is miss leading but again look at the source. It tries to make it like Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said this in effect he did not. His statement ended with him sending a letter to call for an investigation. The rest of the statement you need to read carefully the writer was tricky. Notice he says the Israel Navy reserves officers said publicly then the rest of the statement it was a separate letter to the prime minister and sent to Ashkenazi as well. The article is trying to make out like he agreed with there sentiment when it should have just said he received the letter.

Here is his statement in his press conference:

IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi said in a press conference Monday that the violence aboard the Mavi Marmara, one of the ships of the Gaza-bound protest flotilla, was instigated by those aboard the ships and that soldiers who opened fire were defending themselves.

Ashkenazi noted that the Mavi Marmara, the only ship on which violence took place, was different than the other five ships of the flotilla. He said that five ships carried humanitarians and peace activists but the Mavi Marmara was sponsored by the extremist organization the IHH and those aboard acted in "extreme violence."

Heres his press conference and remember all ways take the time to look into things and not believe everything you read theres a propaganda war going on.

Amazing how this thread has been turned around. At first we're all agreeing with the Israeli Navy oficers for their courage for speaking up then somehow the thrust of of it all gets around to the article, hey its got no credibility, officers are not named, the letter is not displayed, so its propaganda. We fall fall into the trap and talk about the agenda of the author who has obviously made all this up.

Well I did some checking and there is another thread on this site titled Israel Navy reserves officers: Allow Gaza flotilla probe and the letter is quoted as well, without names and the letter, and the source is Haaretz, an Israeli newspaper. I also found the story on the Jerusalem Post at www.jpost.com... again no officers named and no letter. It seems one site outside Israel takes up the story (good on 'em) and we label them agenda advancers or whatever. Lets stop attacking the messenger and get back to the story.

These naval officers are clearly ravenous anti-semites, and they belong to the undesirable and racist progressive movement against Israel itself. They are clearly misinformed.

I would also suggest they are, in fact, Hamas terrorists that have infiltrated the Israeli Navy, and have remained incognito, until now, for however long these dirty terrorist "naval officers" have been in command.

I might also suggest they are carrying rockets on their person, possibly in their rectal cavity, (like all dirty Hamas terrorists) and should not be trusted and, in fact, they should be avoided and ignored immediately and everything that was said by them should be redacted and removed from history's record.
