If there is a God, he's kind of a sick, twisted dude...

I mean, here's someone who gets a little miffed at someone, and destroys most of the world's population, saving a few token trophies...or turns someone into a pillar of salt, just for looking back at a city (talk about drastic). He's so vain, that no matter how good of a person you are, if you don't blindly believe in him, you're still not "worthy". Apparently though, his anger management classes have gone well, as he hasn't seen fit to destroy us all yet again, at least in the modern age, when we can explain more "miracles" scientifically, than back when we were primitive, and more superstitious.... Funny how that works, isn't it? Not to mention, we're talking about someone who used to delight in sending down messengers or appearing himself, and yet he (nor his demigod son) hasn't made an appearance in well over 2000 years...

Bah, such a "God" is not worthy of my worship....you can have him.

Somthing with odds is never impossible. There's always that one chance. And obviously, it happened.

And remember, the universe, in your opinion, is not a billion years old. According to the bible, the Earth isn't even a million years old.

i remember last year my youth pasture talking about Elijah walking through a forest and seeing two large metallic discs in the sky, besides... where in the bible does it say we were the only beings created? and if we were what if God created a differint colony of humans on a differint planet who got a head start in technolegy?

those following a religion should really actually read their holy book sometimes....

It was said that God created man in his own image (it is such common knowledge, that I'm not even going into the exact source, but it's in Genesis)

If there are aliens out there (non-human looking aliens) that are more advanced than we, when we are created in God's image...then obviously, there is a problem here... Suddenly, we no longer seem to be God's chosen children, now do we? But, God is infallible....so sayeth the good book, so where does that leave the human? Ahh....now we see some of the religious implications that an alien reality would bring....

Why would any sane individual see the Bible as containing the absolute truth? I think we can deviate away from it a bit in regards to God's appearance.

Ezekiel 1:15 - 1:17

Now as I looked at the living creatures, behold, a wheel was on the earth beside each living creature with it four faces. 16 The appearances of the wheels and their and their workings was like the color of beryl, and four had the same likness. The appearance of their workings was, as it were, a wheel in the middle of a wheel. 17 When they moved, they went toward any one of four directions; they did not turn aside when they went

This is obviously an encounter with an U.F.O...Well they say GOD works in mysterious ways.....

If you can't believe one part of it, why believe any of it?

According to Gospel, the Bible was told by God, written by man.

This defence always seems to come up when something in the Bible is proven wrong. It's almost as over-used as the mysterious ways arguement.

Are there UFO sightings, taken out of context, in the Bible? Absolutely...because the sighting was made by those who couldn't explain it any other way than as a sign from God.

If you really want to see something interesting, keep Ezikiel's little story in mind, and then read the last part of Revalations, and see if it doesn't describe the descending of a UFO...

That was the point i was trying to make Gazrok. The bible has been translated so many thime that the true meaning has been lost. like When they said jesus Asended into heaven. Well in ancient time the sky and Heaven were the same thing.

Mabey the bible is an account of alien involvement in human civilization. I see why God didn't want humans to worship false idols. we were probably worshiping other beings. Some where down the line (oh about 1000 years after the death of christ) the interpitation of the scriptures has been wrong.

I see the Bible as being a mesh of fact and fiction. I wouldn't put it past the author(s) to actually be a human while claiming to be the word of God. Or perhaps the transcriber of the Bible mistook the teller for God because they didn't know of any other way to describe them, having never seen anything like it before. Maybe an alien?

To Gazrok, and others -
I know this is one measly point of yours, but its the only one I feel like responding to right now.
"back when we were primitive"
How do you know we were primitive? How long have you been on this board? Read Rene Noorbergen's book - it discusses a load of artifacts and archaeological phenomena that point to one logical conclusion - our distant ancestors were at LEAST as far advanced as we are today.

you're saying that when my ancestors were chucking spears made of wood and chipped rock, and upon hearing thunder thought the gods were angry, they were advanced as we are now?

Sounds like I'm not the one in need of a reality check here....

Gazrok i bet you any money that if it wern't for your 7/11's supermarkets and fast food places you wouldn't be able to feed your self. In fact your wood chucking ancestors would probably do better than you or I

I'm gonna get philosophical for a moment - if we evolved from animals, which operate on instinct, then how do you explain our consciousness? (reason)

How in credibly selfish and ignorant. 1st...WE'RE AN ANIMAL. Put us in the category where we belong.
Secondly, I believe all animals have conciousness...and I'm almost willing to believe plants do as well.

True: Conciousness can develop a god.
False: You need a god to create conciousness.

done and done.

ok, back to the thread.

I personally believe we were visited long ago. And older myths mixed with newer experiences and a higher technology and future propheices will make any neanderthal believe in a godhead.

Evolution "disprove" God? Come on, think logically. First of all, "Nothing can be its own first cause."(Aquinas) If you didn't exist, could you make yourself?

Hmm, seems you have just stated that your Bibles own teachings of God's existence is then false. Your teachings say God has always existed, yet you say nothing can be it's own first. So, which one is it?

Are you using God's book to prove God?

The stories of Gods of the old way - Appolo, Cronus, Rhea, etc - have been in written word longer than the Bible, thus making them real.

It can't be different rules of truth for each.

A very profound point

Just wanted to point out, imo, some rational thinking (don't see that much any more, heh).

If you are going to post the title of a theory, but with stipulation that it be understood without discussion , all you've accomplished is making every reader to read your post in vain. A completely sensless and useless post.

Hot damn !! More rational thinking !! WOOHOO !!! lolol.

Seriously, that is such a fine point you make. We have heard of both alien and God for countless years (of alien - look at ancient art & legends). There are so many referrences of alien in the Bible it stumps me how hard core Bible believers do not see this .......... except that they are indoctrinated to not think.

So you have sources that do not entail me going out and buying a book? I have been around a good many years, and have not seen anything you speak of. I have only seen evidence spear chuckin' grunts looking for food. If they were at least as advanced as man today, where is anything showing that? You can not tell me that evidence of this nature, should your claim be plausible, is only in one book that you cite.

The issue here is that the god infamously worshipped in archaic texts like the Bible, the Torah, etc was indeed a corporeal form. Given the amount of influence observed from the dude's interactions, he (she?) would have to either be non-human to begin with or hails from an advanced humanoid culture. Without a doubt however, that dude (or dudes) had it up to here with us and left this planet long long ago. Despite this, however, I do believe the in notion of a supernatural existence, but I also believe that we are a part of this existence, and it does not necessarily belong to any singular being.

A plausible answer to the OP's question, however, and please forgive me if it has been suggested already, is that more people are inclined to believe in aliens because many of us have a subconscious distrust of the way monotheistic and polytheistic are portrayed to us. This form of intuition is very likely accurate, if not extremely controversial.

The other and more 'suitable' answer is that there have been more recent occurences and documented sightings of such nonhuman or nonterrestrial craft, as opposed to the occasional idol of a Hindu god actually appearing to consume milk, or a bleeding statue of Mary, much less so a real sighting of a god.

our distant ancestors were at LEAST as far advanced as we are today.

They cheated, a more advance race gave them or taught them the advance technology.

Now..... we cheated too, before, during and after WWII our technology advanced leaps and bounds. Possible reverse enginnering of crashed space craft at Roswell interaction with aliens and the advance technology the Nazis aquired from ancient text, artifacts, contact with aliens.

These advance aliens sure love to mess with us. I hate being at the bottom, while the ones on top (God, aliens, my boss) can do anything they want with us......Danng!
