The Seljuk Turks conquered Jerusalem in 1071, but their rule in Palestine lasted less than 30 years. Initially they were replaced by the Fatimid rulers of Egypt. The Fatimids took advantage of the Seljuk struggles with the Christian crusaders. They made an alliance with the crusaders in 1098 and captured Jerusalem, Jaffa and other parts of Palestine.

The Crusaders, however, broke the alliance and invaded Palestine about a year later. They captured Jaffa and Jerusalem in 1099, slaughtered many Jewish and Muslim defenders and forbade Jews to live in Jerusalem. They held the city until 1187. In that year, the Muslim ruler Saladin conquered Jerusalem. The Crusaders then held a smaller and smaller area along the coast of Palestine, under treaty with Saladin. However, they broke the treaty with Saladin and later treaties. Crusade after crusade tried to recapture Jerusalem, but they were unable to do so for more than a brief period.

The Crusaders left Palestine for good when the Muslims captured Acre in 1291. During the post-crusade period, crusaders often raided the coast of Palestine. To deny the Crusaders gains from these raids, the Muslims pulled their people back from the coasts and destroyed coastal towns and farms. This depopulated and impoverished the coast of Palestine for hundreds of years.

In the mid-1200's, Mamelukes, originally soldier-slaves of the Arabs based in Egypt, established an empire that in time included the area of Palestine. Arab-speaking Muslims made up most of the population of the area once called Palestine. Beginning in the late 1300's, Jews from Spain and other Mediterranean lands settled in Jerusalem and other parts of the land. The Ottoman Empire defeated the Mamelukes in 1517, and Palestine became part of the Ottoman Empire.

The Turkish Sultan invited Jews fleeing the Spanish Catholic inquisition to settle in the Turkish empire, including several cities in Palestine.

I think the question she should be asked, as she was alive at the time and probably has seen the images, does she remember what she felt the first time she saw pictures of the concentration camps, the ovens, the dead and the walking dead? Does she even remember what happened to the Jewish people who lived in Germany, Poland, and Russia during that age?

I dont think my people have really had a homeland in....centuries....they have been just hanging out here and there for all this time.

To me, she seems a little tipsy, her guard is definitely down, as she laughs with the camera man. It seems difficult to believe given her experience and reputation, that she would give such a forward pro palestine opinion while being filmed, was the camera concealed?


Given Israel's recent attack of the flotilla of aid ships, I can believe she, as well as most of the world was disgusted & angered with Israel and let the comment slip. I know a lot of us have strong views on this issue, for & against.


But she of all people would know the US MSM is strictly pro Israel and she would be fired as a consequence for her comments.

FOX always needs a shock & awe publicity stunt to remain relevant, don't they?

How quick they were to forget that it was Helen Thomas that called out Obama on his fake town hall meetings.

She should not be fired, but she should not have the privilege of being a White House Corespondent any longer. Her apology was because she knows that if she lets it stand, Obama would be forced to take away her privileges. I think its that simple.

Whether anyone likes it or not, Israel is a Sovereign Nation recognized by the United Nations. Criticizing their treatment of the Hamas lead Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and calling for them to be removed from their tiny little bit of land are two separate matters.

Rational people of good will can disagree about the Palestinian / Hamas situation, but what she said are the words of an Evil person. A died in the wool Anti-Semite. Look at her expression as she said that. She not only meant it, she delighted in saying it.

If she is allowed to return to the White House as a privileged reporter, it will confirm that Obama and Anti-Semitic's are not strangers. No other President in history would allow her to return after that.

I actually liked her. I often disagreed but admired her honesty in her beliefs. She just revealed who she really is though.

There's a plan for ya! .. The USA will be a very empty place.. and Ireland's population would go from 6million to 50 million lol.

But as someone already said.. many people are a mix of everything..

Israeli's don't need to "go home" ... If they want to occupy Palestine, which they rightfully do having acquired the land in war, then they need to give every Palestinian citizenship, the right to vote, and all the rights of Israeli's. If they don't want to do this, they need to get out of Palestine, allow them to run the country free from Israeli transgression and so forth.. if Palestine attacks Israel, the International Community cannot back terrorist.
