I stumbled on this with my ohh so dear to me StumbleUpon feature in FireFox.

If you haven't got Firefox or this Stumble feature yet, I would suggest you google both.

This is a really cool piece of weaponry IMO, I have not seen anything like this before.

The Wasp knife ejects a high-pressure gas through a needle in the blade at the touch of a button and the Met Police now fear it could end up on the streets.

‘This knife will almost certainly kill and the Met must have intelligence that they are in circulation,’ said a police source.

The £200, US-made weapon is designed to kill sharks and bears and is normally sold to hunters and pilots. However, the internet has made such weapons much easier to find and buy over in the U.K.

This weapon injects a frozen ball of compressed gas approximately the size of a basketball at 800psi nearly instantly. The effects of this injection will drop many of the world’s largest land predators. The effects of the compressed gas not only cause over-inflation during ascent when used underwater, but also freezes all tissues and organs surrounding the point of injection on land or at sea. When used underwater, the injected gas carries the predator to the surface BEFORE blood is released into the water. Thus giving the diver added protection by diverting other potential predators to the surface.

Read the story here.

Also a video..

That is scary. We need some new high tech body armour to combat this on ths streets. It will make it on the streets.

The killer will be the guy running down the street screaming and covered in gore.
Don't think it'd be all that popular for long.

This has been around for quite a few years now, so there's no immediate danger / alarm of it. I read about it 2/3 years ago. So if anything, the **** would have hit the fan by now. Thanks for posting OP

The authorities are afraid that this knife might be used more often now that they made its existence known to a broader audience?!?

Typical...

We need more laws! Ban these! Ban ban ban! Make more things illegal! Ban these NOW so that divers and hunters can't have them, only criminals.

That is no more deadly than a regular knife or a gun. Calm down.

The PTB's marketing campaign continues to sensationalize everything they can think of to create social terror in order to take away more rights and,or gain more power thus giving people less power..

Many different peoples may also be unwittingly jumping on this bandwagon because of the success of the propaganda machine (terrorists and criminals under every rock mentality)...

I think the real worry is how simple the knife looks to make, it seems like its just a 24g co2 cartridge in the handle with a button to relase it, and a small hole drilled in the blade lol.

pretty sweet though I never would have thought of that

First reported as a risk by the Brits years ago along with the fake cell phone capable of firing .22LR bullets.

Predictions were that both devices would leave British streets piled high with the corpses of victims. Those with more than 3 functioning brain cells new different.

Total British body count to date from both devices - zero

Total number of devices seized - zero.

Total amount of hype - 9 moos on the BS scale.

Yea I remember seeing this last year or the year before. Thats neat but again why is it necessary to carry that kind of weapon?

Wow, interesting read.

It's cool to see these odd types of weapons being developed but it's very discouraging to see that yet again they are being used for crime. Although I don't understand why criminals would rather this weapon over something like a standard knife as they are probably much more accessable.

Also, why are these knives being sold to pilots?

There is also a much deadlier form of WASP daggers being used by Elite Russian soldiers (can't remember their names).

In this version the blade is actually shot out of the handle at enormous speeds and is deadly accurate. I think this might be the version they should be concerned about.

en.wikipedia.org...

It seems as if these knives have been around for quite a while, since the 80's apparently. I think if there was going to be a crime-wave involving these knives we would have seen it by now. The same can probably be applied to the knife the OP is talking about.

anti bear defence - or more correctly - anti bear last chance
you REALLY dont want to be at knife fighting range with a bear - but if you are - this is the only knife that will make any significant impact

they were - are ? sold to bush polots in alaska and canada
