Which route are they going to take to hook the pipe up that is going to start pumping the oil, A, B, or some other way?

Mmmh, Interesting. B having a larger diameter should be able to cover better and seemingly catch any flow of oil which may want to escape from the side. However, A might be able to act like a straw in a glass and if it had enough suction power, would be able to draw that flow in.

Not sure if I'm missing something here, but just looking at the picture I'd think A THEN B would be the most likely way to reduce oil leakage.

Does that seem too obvious?

It doesn't matter what they do, they are purposefully setting it up for failure. Do you honestly believe it's this difficult to fix a hole in a pipe? I'm having a hard time believing it myself.

I could see it going both ways, I think A would work as long as it is a pretty tight fit and it goes into the pipe a few feet. I can see B working as long as they have some way to keep it attached. The only thing I can see is if they attach it to that flange some how.

That many fathoms down and using ROV's as their hands isn't exactly a walk in the park.
