United Nations
On January 24, 2008, the United Nations Human Rights Council released a statement calling for Israel to lift its siege on the Gaza Strip, allow the continued supply of food, fuel, and medicine, and reopen border crossings.[56]

According to the Jerusalem Post, this was the 15th time in less than two years the council condemned Israel for its human rights record regarding the Palestinian territories.[57]

The proceedings were boycotted by Israel and the United States.
On December 15, 2008, following a statement in which he described the embargo on Gaza a crime against humanity, United Nations Special Rapporteur Richard A. Falk was prevented from entering the Palestinian territories by Israeli authorities and expelled from the region.[58]

The Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Itzhak Levanon[59] said that the mandate of the Special Rapporteur was "hopelessly unbalanced," "redundant at best and malicious at worst." [60]

In August 2009, U.N. human rights chief Navi Pillay criticised Israel for the blockade in a 34-page report, calling it a violation of the rules of war.[61]

In March 2010, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon stated that the blockade of Gaza is causing "unacceptable suffering" and that families were living in "unacceptable, unsustainable conditions".[62]

A UN Fact Finding mission lead by South African Judge Richard Goldstone suggested that the blockade was a war crime and possibly a crime against humanity:
"Israeli acts that deprive Palestinians in the Gaza Strip of their means of subsistence, employment, housing and water, that deny their freedom of movement and their right to leave and enter their own country, that limit their rights to access a court of law and an effective remedy, could lead a competent court to find that the crime of persecution, a crime against humanity, has been committed."[6]

The Goldstone report recommended that the matter be referred to the International Criminal Court if the situation has not improved in six months.
In May 2010, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that the formal economy in Gaza has collapsed since the imposition of the blockade.[63]

I just feel a need to chime in here. I know a man in Israel, one of those Joose. He quit his job, well because he can afford to, and now drives a van, everyday, going into Gaza, picking up Palestinian people who need medical care they don't, or can't receive in Gaza, and delivers them to Israeli doctors for medical assistance. And he then takes them back to their homes.

It's not often he is not allowed to do this charity work. Maybe when there is a threat from Hamas and the Israelis stop the border crossings. This is not common, though. He works most every day, on his own and on his own dime, or shekel.

His biggest fear? Some azzhat in Gaza might try to kill him while he is doing his charity work.

Actually, your post is "technically" correct. The only problem is Israel is limiting the supplies to a trickle. About only a quarter of the pre-blockade goods are being delivered. As a direct consequence the Gaza economy has faltered.

The blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip over a year ago has left the entire population of 1.5 million Palestinians trapped with dwindling resources and an economy in ruins. Some 80 per cent of the population now depend on the trickle of international aid that the Israeli army allows in. This humanitarian crisis is man-made and entirely avoidable.

What are the terrorists going to do with conrete? Fancy rocks to throw at the soldiers?

The point of the Gaza blockade is to make things so unbearable in there that the people would revolt and overthrow the legally chosen goverment that Israel doesn't like.

Your right, it's funny that Syria is in charge of the human rights dept. at the UN. They torture and torture, what we should do is get a country that doesn't torture like the US. Oh wait we do torture, but don't call it that we call it enhanced interrogation. And calling the UN a joke is funny, it truly is. For one if it's such a joke, why do we run there for them to vote against our enemies in the US. I guess it's not a joke if they agree with us but a joke if they disagree with us. I know you can't see the hypocrisy of your statements, but you should look at this from the standpoint of the rest of the planet. They are tired of the Israel essentially doing whatever they want and saying you better not do anything to us or even scold us or we will use our dog the US to attack you. Lets look at this from the standpoint of Parent and child. You love your child and eventually the love becomes spoiling your child. Now your child knows that he can get away with anything and does at will. He talks back to you and others, he kicks other kids, he damages other people properties, etc. etc.. And what the parent does is to keep making excuses and/or saying it's not his or her fault, it's the ones blaming him fault.

The US has becoming the enabler of Israel and Israel knows it. What is happening is that the country of Israel is making us make enemies where we shouldn't. Eventually we are fighting wars and skirmishes and other fights for Israel. The US is slowly dying by a thousand cuts and in the end when we are down on the ground needing help, do you think our "allies" will be their to help us. They will be like the peasants/serfs who see the king or monster die and then get up and scream the beast is dead, the beast is dead.
