ATS had the solution to the Gulf Gusher, but BP decided to cut off the BOP instead!

After just seeing video of the BP attempt to saw off the BOP, I'm outraged.

BP had the nerve to open a submission form for solution suggestions, but not bother to hire enough people to actually make use of the data. You can bet they've archived the data, to later on become the the oil spill recovery go-to contractor, profiting from our ideas and the misfortune of future oil spills.

Meanwhile, ATS solved the crisis! But they didn't listen and now it's too late. After seeing the diagrams of the innards of the BOP I was confident that with the right approach it could be stopped. But I'm not confident they'll be able to stop it when they open it full bore.

But BP didn't decide to hire enough people to sift through the idea submission form in time for it to matter. Now they're sawing off the BOP, and thus giving the gusher 30-40% more output that was choked by the bent riser.

The BOP was the key!


But BP decided they would go as far as attempt a low tech "junk shot" which had already failed in the Ixtoc I disaster 30 years ago, that also happened in the Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile, we have 'simple' modern high tech solutions to that process that could have saved it:

Via collaboration, ATS came up with multiple good ideas, that eventually came together in the context of the BOP:

Basically feed and twist up metal wire into wherever it can be fed in, from above the BOP, while replacing the 'junk' with rare earth magnets and teflon. Then feeding in epoxy paste behind all that mess. All the while a massive electromagnet would be stuck to the side of the BOP, meaning much of the 'junk' would inherently stick to the BOP.

That's all a very vague combined description of the detailed ideas of many. BP had a better idea: Saw the BOP off opening up a bigger force than was previously possible.

I cannot help but feel BP is going to tamper with the BOP and destroy any evidence that would cause them to get prosecuted.

Where is the watchdog people to over see this??

If it were a plane crash.. you bet the FAA would not let Boeing recover the crash by themselves !!!

That right there tells me something is fishy here.

Most evidence is already in the water. I hope someone will start to record pollution levels in undersea currents and pools asap. Tony Hayworth already denied the mere existence of any underwater plumes from the spill, to get BPs fines lowered. That might actually be a job, where navy submarines could be helpful as a platform for cameras and chemosniffers, to help the DOJ collect evidence.

One idea to plug the leak instead of diverting the oil would be to use explosively formed metal plugs.

They would consist of rods of soft metals which are filled with a small amount of explosive and when inserted into the pipe and detonated they expand to perfectly fit the internal diameter of the pipe. Several of these could be used to ensure the leak is sealed.

look what i am about to propose may sound really simple but could work. I work on underground pipelines, water, sanitary, natural gas and sewer. I understand the pressure the are working against is around 6000psi, so ive never had anything close to that. They already had a small pipe inserted into the larger pipe, now if they would have installed a heavy duty rubberized balloon on the end of that pipe with the ability to inflate it with a large air compressor once it was inserted that should have given or would give them more than enough time to shoot a junk shot of shredded rubber and a quick set cement behind it. A small ballon made out of a thick enough rubber would have been able to slip into the pipe or shot down uninflated through the junk shot pipe and inflated once past the opening of the inserted pipe. They have these bladders in plumbing instances and this pipe is not much different. I know it sounds simple but i would bet it could be made to work.

I cleaned up my OP. It was really late and sloppily written. Corona and Key Limes couldn't soothe the sight of their latest BS.

Technically, they've been tampering with the evidence. I saw a thread the other day where people were cheering while watching BP's drones dismantle the BOP.

Cool ideas.

I'm just to the point where I'm weary of suggesting them any new ideas as I look at the future aftermath where BP take the lead in oil disaster recovery profiteering. Considering BP was behind the over throw of the government of Iran in 1953, and shadiness with this current ordeal, I fear them having a profit motive for 'the existence of future oil spills'.
