Some people think allowing open homosexuality in the military means nothing more than opening a door that was previously closed. It means much more than that. It would mean simultaneously ushering out the back door anyone who disapproves of homosexual conduct, whether because of legitimate privacy and health concerns or because of moral or religious convictions.

Put another way... anytime we right a wrong by ending discrimination...

First of all... Tony, this is wrong... allowing gays to be openly gay in the military doesn't mean that homophobic folks are no longer allowed in the military... It is a free country...

When Civil rights passed, it didn't outlaw bigotry.. it merely made discrimination based on skin illegal... and many felt that was shoved down their throat...

This is a country where you are free to believe what you will... practice your own religion etc.... We constantly hear how Christians claim that they don't hate homosexuals.. they just think its sinful... By this logic, how is it now a problem for them to work next to openly gay people as much as they work next to people who "live in sin" and are "gluttons" etc?

Sounds to me like Tony is trying to justify moral relativism.

You've gotta love how articles like this paint those who would discriminate as the victims.

Sure, they have a right to free speech. No one is stopping them from speaking their thoughts.

Oh, Tony, Tony, Tony.... When will you ever learn? It's not "Pro-Homosexuality". It's Pro-Equality". Really, I don't know what else we could expect from the President of the Family Research Council.

Can we all imagine the uproar if there were a US law that said that religious people are allowed in the military as long as they keep it to themselves and no one else knows? The Family Research Council would have a freaking FIT! And well they should.

I don't really know how any Religious person could be in the army as it kind of contradicts that whole, don't kill thing.

I knew people in Iraq that would act gay and do very gay things but as we returned stateside their gay antics came to an end or dropped to a minimum. Now a days they just hit up the clubs and drink till they cant remember what happened last night. Some have reported harrassment in Iraq but none stateside so far.

There is a huge difference between pro-gay propoganda and the anti-gay propaganda being spewed by Tony Perkins.

Notice how he said "legitimate health concerns"?

What do you think he meant by that? That bunking in the same quarters as homosexuals might cause health issues? Is he perpetuating the myth that 1. Homosexuals carry aids exclusively, and 2. you can get it just by being around them?


This thread is the furthest thing from "pro-gay propaganda", If anything, it's Pro-American propaganda.

When I was a child, our southern baptist minister used to talk about how Canaan was cursed by his father to be his brother's servants, and that's where the negroes (as they were then called if you were polite) came from and that therefore the biblical way was to avoid negroes where ever possible except as servants. No doubt someone claimed that it was against religious freedom when Truman integrated the military.

The military only serves one purpose to kill people. Doesnt matter what your religion, race or preference. However bit odd that these same peoples religion tells them THOU SHALL NOT KILL . Yet we see how far they follow that one.. now theyre going to whine because they cant discriminate against others. The stupidity never ends..

Both you and ChristianPatrick have brought up some amazingly good points.

There was a day when the more observant the Christian, the more of a conscientous objector to war one was. The US even made it to where those who religion expressly forbade fighting of any kind didn't have to go to go to war, though perhaps they would get a desk or hospital position.

Also, on the topic of religious liberty, the fact that many a Southern Preacher would claim what ChristianPatric stated... Honestly, I heard the same rationale in the North (We have backwoods up there to).

Something else stands out to me here as well, specifically regarding Tony Perkins. This man may or may not believe what he is saying, but at the same time, the man has a job doing this.... I can't imagine how it is to stand against and lambast that which you don't really have a problem with, but I see lots of politicians who are anti-gay turning out to be also secretly gay...

Now I'm not saying Tony is gay at all... I'm simply saying its quite possible his job isn't exactly in line with his personal beliefs as it happens alot in that realm....

Do you mean the religious liberty to..... persecute homosexuals? How nice.

Doesn't one surrender a fair number of liberties when entering the military anyway?
