Im not sure if this is the right forum so feel free to move where needed.

I had to put my experience over the last few hours on here. I dont really know what words to best describe what Ive felt, but ill try my best.

Last night, a friend of mine was murdered by his roomate. So far from what Ive heard, him and his roomate got into an argument over a drinking game, and the roomate snapped, ran back to his room, and came out with a gun and shot my friend in the head. Ive known him since we were growing up.

I found out about this just a little while ago today. 5 minutes after hearing about it, I go outside to smoke a cigarette. On my way in, I heard my next door neighboor outside say, "Oh my gosh, I love life." A feeling came over me that was really different. I dont really know how to describe it.

I just wanted to post this because it seems "weird" how things kind of go together. My neighboor saying that was just....I dont know. The way things work just seem like theres a connection of someting,

I dont know, I just thought id share this.

Thank you for your story. I'm very sorry about your friend.

Life makes little sense and our emotions and reactions to it make less sense. Whatever you are feeling is likely to be extreme and you are likely to go through mood swings after a piece of terrible news like that. My thoughts will be with you.

The world is full of sad stories.

Everyone should always remember never do anything, the world deserves every piece of rubbish it has.

Perhaps in such a dire time of need to step back, have a smoke, and try to make sense of it all .. your neighbors's mention struck a chord already welling up inside yourself.

Love life today, as we're not even guaranteed our next breathe ... let alone tomorrow.

My sincere condolence with regards your friend's passing.

Somethings in life just never seem to make sense, these type situations being but one of the same.

All the best,

Wow sorry about your friend. You must still be very much in shock. Probably hasn't even hit you properly yet.
I like what your neighbour said and I do think that was a message for you, to love your life. The universe throws stuff at us all the time, we're not always aware of that. You were meant to pick that up. Well, that's my opinion.

Some people call it the cosmic-giggle...

..Like some unknown all-pervasive force nudging you with it's elbow from time to time to remind you it's still there.

I'm really sorry for you, that's terrible news but hopefully you'll find and receive all the support you need. The good and the bad go hand in hand I'm afraid.

Take good care of yourself.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ive been a pretty spiritual person, and am interested in the unknown. By that I mean the way life works, the universe, and how almost everything seems to be connected, even if its in a little way.

I have a thought that what my neighboor said, was the universe, life force, or something along those lines that was telling me to "appreciate and live your life" basically something like that. Kind of like, "take notice of everything around me."

Another thing I thought what they said may be something like.... I notice the small things more? If it was any other day, and the neighboor said that, Im not sure if I would of even noticed.

Im kind of thinking that, in situations like this, people are more "in-tune" with life "essence". People become more open in their spiritual self.......its like something out there is twisting a persons life web together, putting small bits of information in, not really noticable on a regular day.

Im guessing I may see more "connections" throught the next couple weeks.

Your post reminded me of this Kate Bush song so I decided to find out what the lyrics were about and they are quite profound.

Pull Out The Pin Lyrics
Artist(Band):Kate Bush

Just as we hit the green,
I've never been so happy to be alive.
Only seven miles behind
You could smell the child,
The smell of the front line's survival.

With my silver Buddha
And my silver bullet,
(I pull the pin.)

You learn to ride the Earth,
When you're living on your belly and the enemy are city-births.
Who need radar? We use scent.
They stink of the west, stink of sweat.
Stink of cologne and baccy, and all their Yankee hash.

With my silver Buddha
And my silver bullet,
(I'm pulling on the pin,)
Ooh, I pull out, pull out the pin.
(pulling on the pin, oh...)

Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
I love life!
I love life!

I've seen the coat for me.
I'll track him 'til he drops,
Then I'll pop him one he won't see.
He's big and pink, and not like me.
He sees no light.
He sees no reason for the fighting

With my silver Buddha
And my silver bullet.
(I'm pulling on the pin,)
Ooh, I pull out, pull out the pin.
(pulling on the pin, oh...)

I had not seen his face,
'til I'm only feet away
Unbeknown to my prey.
I look in American eyes.
I see little life,
See little wife.
He's striking violence up in me.

With my silver Buddha
And my silver bullet.

Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
I love life!
I love life!

Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
Just one thing in it:
Me or him.
And I love life!
I love life!
I love life!

KB KATE BUSH: "I saw this incredible documentary by this Australian cameraman who went on the front line in Vietnam, filming from the Vietnamese point of view, so it was very biased against the Americans. He said it really changed him, because until you live on their level like that, when it's complete survival, you don't know what it's about. He's never been the same since, because it's so devastating, people dying all the time. The way he portrayed the Vietnamese was as this really crafted, beautiful race. The Americans were these big, fat, pink, smelly things who the Vietnamese could smell coming for miles because of the tobacco and cologne. It was devastating, because you got the impression that the Americans were so heavy and awkward, and the Vietnamese were so wbeautiful and all getting wiped out. They wore a little silver Buddha on a chain around their neck and when they went into action they'd pop it into their mouth, so if they died they'd have Buddha on their lips. I wanted to write a song that could somehow convey the whole thing, so we set it in the jungle and had helicopters, crickets and little Balinese frogs."

POTP deserves to be in an anthology of war poetry... The song is as packed and explosive as a hand-grenade... full of the psychosis of war and violation. The song conveys, with existential intensity, the life-and-death living of the battlefield.

For the Việt Cộng, the war is purpose, definition, violation. All his senses are elevated and involved, like he's never felt alive before. Beyond fear, he has reached an historical, spiritual, life-through-death determined necessity. Psyched up, he can smell the west, smell their fear and mistakes, sniff them out like an animal riding the earth to hunt its quarry (or a 'deer hunter' after a trophy "coat"). This man's 'hit' is as deadly as it is Godly.

The song is (dis)located late in the war. The American Outsiders (pink-faced conscripted teenagers) are scared, mistake-prone, purple-hazed, out of their depth. Survival dominates pursuit. They don't understand the terrain or the 'why' of the war. They hit the ground, while he hits the high.

The poetry emphasises the ugliness and screwed-up nature of war... The VC's 'never been so happy'. He smells the child and learns to ride the Earth.

Contempt and disdain strike violence. There is no 'cult of honor' restraining the ferocity. The American represents the cologne-stinking, alien, charmed life of the West. And traditionally, the silver bullet is the only bullet effective against a person living a charmed life (wiki). Moreover, the American's 'Western' life will end, whereas the VC's 'Eastern' life will not... In Buddhism, life does not end, it merely goes on in other forms. The VC has no fear of death for it leads to Karmic rebirth. Hence, the 'I LOVE LIFE' chorus is both a War Cry and a 'chant' to generate rebirth in a higher realm. The 'I love Life' affirms his acceptance of death in order to love life again...

Cambodian civilian dead: ~700,000*

I wish I had a friend like you.
Someone who would mourn me, as loss to this world.
The love, the compassion, the grief and the respect that you show toward your friend, should be the envy of all in this forum, if not, it is at least mine.
May our G_D, The Lord Jesus Christ comfort you and give rest and peace to your friend.

It's amazing what someone is capable of doing to another when pride is involved (as well as alcohol) It really is sad. I am sorry for your loss, and the friends and family of the victim. When guns are involved its just the squeeze of a finger that means life or death, far too easy to get angry and make a stupid choice.

I'm very sorry for your loss, and his families loss as well. Such a tragic waste. It's very impressive that you can keep your head at a time like this, and yes - we all tend to take life for granted sometimes.

Again, I'm very sorry....

I am very sorry to hear of your loss. You will be more meloncolli in the future. You will see and hear things that will remind you of your firend.
Think of the good times you had togather, Try to remember the best time you had together and dwel on that.

I wrote a poem actually and ode for a close friend of mine who died.
Her husband had no understanding of a higher being or God or whom ever one might worship.

I published the Poem/Ode and it went to the Library of congress;

It goes like this, Title.............DEATH.......................

Our death is but a short sleep, our soul which is eternal having travel afar will come forth at it's appointed time, not unlike a shooting star recalling all that came before and commune with God the father and his Son Jesus Christ who, surrounded by a host of angels will be there with open arms to welcome you home!

I dedicate this to all ATSer's who have lost someone recently . KMG

Damn stud that's hard. Have you lost any one before this?
The first time this happened for me was also strange.
I don't believe in coincidence at all.
I feel ya!

Remember the message.

The first time was something that Ive never felt or knew how to deal with before, but this time, I understand how I am going to feel later on and know what I will be going through. Ive dealt with situations like this a few times during my life.

The thing this time that was "weird", was what the neighboor said. I honestly dont think that has ever happened to me before in a situation like this.
