The Soviet dictator called off assassination attempts in 1943 and 1944 because he feared Hitler’s replacement as Nazi leader would make peace with the Western Allies.
General Anatoly Kulikov said: ‘A plan to assassinate Hitler in his bunker was developed, but Stalin suddenly cancelled it in 1943 over fears that after Hitler's death his associates would conclude a separate peace treaty with Britain and the United States.'
Stalin hoped that by prosecuting the war until the bitter end he would be able to destroy Germany as a future threat and also gain more influence in Eastern Europe. A plan to attack Hitler's bunker in 1943 was cancelled on Stalin's orders, General Kulikov told a historical conference in Moscow.
In 1944 the Soviets again plotted to kill Hitler after a potential assassin managed to gain the trust of the Nazi leadership. A detailed assassination plan was prepared, but Stalin cancelled it again,’ General Kulikov said.
General Kulikov was Russia's Interior Minister from 1995 to 1998 under President Boris Yeltsin. He said that the Club of Military Leaders, which he heads, would include details of the assassination attempts in a forthcoming book on World War II.

Hitler wasn't the best strategist with the Nazi army and WW2. If Hitler would've been assassinated, someone much more intelligent and decisive and mentally stable could have taken power and the United States most likely would be fascist right now.
Hitler was far from a military genius. He still had the WW1 mentality of dig in and hold against mechanized units. Worked great on his side at start of War since france and Great Britain had the same mindset. His complete lack of military knowledge worked to Allied advantage, both Russian and western powers.
