UFO over Bakersfield last night? **video**

I live in Bakersfield and I was not outside during the time that people stated they saw it. The news people are stating that its a kite?? Thoughts??

It looks like a kite and moves like a kite. Someone seems to be shining a laser on it. What's with shining lasers at "UFOs" these days?

Thanks for posting thatn interesting news report & video.

As per other members, it looks a lot like a kite a flasing LED / strobe light device attached to the kite string below the kite itself.

I think the triangular shape of the kite & the location of the string + light are evident in this screen capture from the video.

The thing that gets me is that they stated that people all over town were reporting this. Bakersfield is not a small city in california.

It's hard to get a feel for the scale of object from the video, plus it's hard to judge distance and size at night. Unless it really is vastly bigger than your average kite i'd probably say that's all it was.

oh its a .. uhh.. saucer shaped ... remote control airplane with some modified lights on it... damn kids!

well i live here locally so I will let you know if anything else comes up in the news regarding this. Kite...yeah it looks like a kite. However, if they had calls pouring in from all over town that just doesn't make sense......we'll see if they are flying again tonight

Haha, "Nice music boys" .. but her later comment confirms she isn't someone who's watched YouTube UFO videos a plenty to know the X Files theme is just sickening to put over these things these days...

But I admire their banter (the reporters) and I'm glad the guy gives credibility to those of us who might dig a little deeper.

But yeah, there is so much more music to choose from, news people! Independence Day, Unsolved Mysteries, Mars Attacks... You folks are getting much better at sensible reports and taking "average joe" up a step but the next step is to change the bloomin' cliché music!

As for the object in question...I'd go with kite and light. But whatever. It got a news report. Kudos

When I first read your post topic,it reminded me of this ufo sighting near Bakersfield in 2007.Bakersfield triangle

I used to build kites professionally, and I've seen some big ones too!
When I saw the video I was immediately able to see certain contours and lines that would indicate a large "Delta" kite - a large triangle. The wind flow under the wing causes the wing to bow backwards into a 'scalloped' shape.
No indicators in the video that would help scale, but it really looks like a delta kite.

Google "Delta Kite" and look for pics of them flying. See the similarities in shapes?

I've personally flown deltas with 28' wingspans, so I know they can get huge. They'll also fly in near windless conditions - in case anyone doubts there was enough wind. I was in Bakersfield yesterday, and it was pretty still. However, one could still put up a delta in that breeze.

We could well have said that.....

There ARE RC UFO's flying around out there exactly as you describe.

I have personally attended night flights of such things.
