Sources close to the Duchess of York have said she is "devastated" and "regretful" after she was filmed apparently offering to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew for £500,000.

Sarah Ferguson responded after she was captured promising to introduce an undercover newspaper reporter posing as a wealthy businessman to the Prince.

It remains to be seen if she fulfils a planned public appearance in Los Angeles later, when the Duchess is due to pick up an award for her charity work.

Her reputation appears to be tarnished after footage emerged showing her shaking hands on a $40,000 (£27,650) cash down-payment after promising the unseen reporter: "I can open any door you want."

The News of the World - which carried out the sting - alleges she then asked for the main payment to be wired to her UK bank account.

"£500,000 when you can, to me, open doors," she tells the reporter during the exchange, which was filmed on Tuesday night.

But, according to the News of the World, the prince was not aware of any such dealings.

Ferguson reportedly asked for a confidentiality agreement before agreeing to the alleged deal.

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on the allegations.

"Devastated" and "regretful" ...yeah those are usually two of the main emotions you feel when you're caught red-handed with no other possible alibi or intent. Of course as they say "any exposure is good exposure".

SnF OP thanks for bring this to the world attention here on ATS!!!!

Fergie IMHO is only sorry for getting caught. The joke that I see is that she was hoping to make enough cash from this illegal operation to win back the respect of the English people. What is that all about? People love winners not thieves. She goes on to say that Andy is an honest man who would not take any money for considering outside interest. 1) since when does a mover and shaker not take money from outside sources. 2) If he is honest then Sarah would not be able to persuade him change his mind therefore misinforming the punters on what the meeting can do for them and their position. Is this a form of fraud? 3) If Andy is honest then why does Fergie need to acquire money this way and is not supported correctly as Diana was when she got divorced?

Question is this a form of bribery, when you accept money for your royal ex-husband to consider a different opinion from his own position on an issue?

If Andy did not pay Fergie the same payout that Diana got from her divorce then is this sort of bribery is in lieu of spousal support and could be considered an indirect income for Andy since he doesn't pay out the correct support payments to his exwife and children?

Since this was a cash deal was this an attempt of cheating the taxpayers out of their fair share of taxes on illegal gains? Taxes on £500,000 is no small matter!

Hearing Fergie money problems IMHO is a kick in the teeth to all honest hard working English people. Many taxpayers have lost their jobs and homes because their jobs have vanished in this economic downfall along with their life savings.
