As far as I know, the magma reservoir is centered at a depth of 7 to 12 km beneath the central section of the resurgent dome.

thats good to know because the mag and the dept of the quakes can be important as to the goings on in the chamber.

Here's last Fridays weekly update

LONG VALLEY OBSERVATORY WEEKLY UPDATE
Friday, August 6, 2010 10:03 AM PDT (Friday, August 6, 2010 17:03 UTC)

LONG VALLEY VOLCANIC CENTER VOLCANO (CAVW #1203-14-)
37°42' N 118°52'12" W, Summit Elevation 7231 ft (2204 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

The earthquake swarm that started on July 15 inside Long Valley Caldera ~ 9 miles east of the town of Mammoth Lakes continued at low levels throughout the week. The events in the swarm were too small to be felt with the exception of a magnitude M=3.7 that produced light to moderate shaking in Lee Vining, Mammoth Lakes, and Bishop on August 5th at 6:20PM PDT. Outside the caldera, a magnitude M=2.7 earthquake was detected east of Toms Place in the southern reaches of the Benton Range and four others, all below magnitude 2.0, occurred in the Sierras south of the caldera.

LONG VALLEY VOLCANIC CENTER VOLCANO (CAVW #1203-14-)
37°42' N 118°52'12" W, Summit Elevation 7231 ft (2204 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

Twenty-three earthquakes between magnitude M=1.0 and M=2.8 occurred in the Long Valley area since the last update on August 6, 2010. Although the earthquake swarm that started on July 15 inside Long Valley Caldera (~ 9 miles east of Mammoth Lakes) continues at low levels, most events were recorded outside the caldera (one under the east flank of Mammoth Mountain; fifteen in the Sierra Nevada to the south).

Ten earthquakes between magnitude M=1.0 and M=2.9 occurred in the Long Valley area since the last update on August 13, 2010. The earthquake swarm that started on July 1, 2010 inside Long Valley Caldera (~ 9 miles east of Mammoth Lakes) continues at low levels (five events registered with M=1.0 to 2.3). Outside the caldera, a M=2.9 earthquake occurred under the east flank of Mammoth Mountain which was widely felt in the town of Mammoth Lakes (August 15 at 10:13 PM PDT). Four other earthquakes, all below magnitude 2.0 occurred south of the caldera (three in the Sierra Nevada; one in Round Valley).

Hi folks.

WHAT'S GOING ON AT MARKLEEVILLE?!

lol... I've noticed this oddity bypassed by you, take a look at my theory on Long Valley as it relates to this thread...

Lake Tahoe, anybody?

From Long Valley to Lake Tahoe, I submit the hypothesis that the series of interconnected faults that connect the region are a weakened by product of the Colorado Plataeu, and thus a proportionate part of backlash connecting the long valley system with Yellowstone in that regard.

If true, that could make Lake Tahoe an ancient Caldera, with it's adjoining Emerald Bay a secondary to the original caldera... and wizard island a rising magma chamber.

so, what's going on at Markleeville? Erratic Earthquake flurries, with shallow and deep depths... is it the precursor to a volcanic event?

I'd enjoy some thought on this, and my hypothesis on Lake Tahoe!

Long Valley Caldera and Mono-Inyo Craters Volcanic Field, California

Notice, the region, which includes Long Valley, is known as a 'volcanic field'?

what is that? look at These Fault Lines. Red ones are named faults - notice the orange ones too?... The entire region appears shattered!

The Mono-Inyo Craters volcanic field developed along a 30-mile-long (50 km) fissure system that extends northward from Mammoth Mountain on the southwestern rim of the caldera to Mono Lake

Mafic eruptions began ... within the caldera and migrated to the north...

Rhyolitic volcanism began on the Mono Craters chain northwest of the caldera about 35,000 years ago. Mono Craters consists of a chain of at least 30 coalesced domes, flows, and craters. The youngest feature is only 600 years old.

These systems, part of the 'volcanic field' marched northward...

Could Markleeville be the next chain in the Long Valley link?! read more on the link provided above - thanks for your time!

Didn't they send a submarine down under Tahoe and didn't they find some significant faults that could cause a 7+ quake in the future and that caused a previous landslide?

They say that Lake Tahoe Basin Fault Lines Are Like 'Sleeping Giants' .
As far as I know, the Incline Village fault line runs behind the K-2 elementary school and is about 10 miles long. It is the smallest and least active of three major faults in the basin.
The second largest and more active fault line is the North Shore or Stateline fault line, which runs close to the Incline Village fault and through Crystal Bay.
The largest and most active fault line is on the West Shore, beginning at Dollar Point and running along the lake shore.

Maybe all three faults could be linked to one another deep inside the Earth, but we would not know until one becomes active.

The problem with the big faults is they are completely dormant between earthquakes. They are like sleeping giants, and then they suddenly awaken.

Update?

1 earthquake today. M2.0
11 earthquakes in the past 7 days. Biggest was a M2,6
39 earthquakes in the past month. Biggest was a M3.0
40 earthquakes in the past year. Still the biggest was a M3.0

Funny, I checked and saw that on 17 June 2013 a flurry of earthquakes started in the Long Valley Caldera east of the town of Mammoth Lakes and that the swarm produced about 100 earthquakes over 5 hours before petering out with a M3.0 was the largest.

I do also believe that we might have a small swarm at 37°38'27.11"N 118°56'49.58"W.
There have been several quakes in this area in September 2013 alone.
