BP lies/Numbers Don't: Something Does Not Add Up...

I'll keep this as simple as I can. If I have made any errors in my calculations, feel free to correct me.


1. The rig exploded on April 20th 2010
According to B.P., it has been releasing 5000 barrels which is 210,000 gallons per day.


2. On or around May 14th, A oil plume was spotted by scientists.
It was described as being 10 miles long, 3 miles wide, and 300 feet thick.

10 miles = 52,805 ft.
3 miles = 15,840 ft.


3. A basic volume calculation based off these variables gives you the following:
1,874,264,832,000 gallons.

That's 1 trillion, 874 billion and change.


4. From April 20th to May 14th, at 210,000 gallons = 5,250,000 gallons.

Obviously, the blob of oil is organic in shape and cannot be measured exactly, but even if it were 10% the observed size, that's still much more than is being recorded and reported.

Oh, and that's only one of many other "blobs" floating out there....

I'm having a hard time believing it myself so if someone can back these calculations up, I'd appreciate it.

It's not like it ones solid BLOB. The complex compounds in crude oil separate, dissolve and mix with the saltwater. It would have to be impossible to gauge the amount of a crude oil spill based on the size of the 'slick'. Besides, its not like its evenly distributed with nice sharp corners even if you did want to try to guestimate it. I assume it would require sophisticated combinatorial satellite and sonar imaging and advanced computer modeling just to attempt define the true and total size of such a 'slick' at any given moment. I don't know whether or not such a perfected technique actually exists, considering it still wont give you a precise measurement of spilled oil.

I could provide a link, but I assumed it was "common knowledge" in this forum. The measurements are the same with any Google search I do. The date is questionable, although I recall reading about it around May 14th.

I thought I stated there was no way to measure it in my post...just stating measurements based off of observed variables.

Thanks for the link St Patrick. So even if this plume varies by upwards of 70-90% i some parts, and it is not "pure oil" meaning it is a combination of sea water, Corexit, and oil, that's still a lot of volume.

Believe me, I don't post often, but this pinched a nerve with me and I'm just putting it out there.

A shape that has dimensions 52800 feet by 15840 feet by 300 feet has a volume of:

= 7104900000 cubic meters
= 250910000000 cubic feet
= 433560000000000 cubic inches
= 1876900000000 U.S. gallons
= 7104900000000 liters

I saw the video from May 17 that showed the small pipe in the large oil dumping pipe. The small pipe is truly small, it looks like a small cooper water pipe, how does this pull out 60 percent of the oil from the riser pipe. It doesn't, it only pulls out 2 percent if lucky as was said on monday. They are just doing things in order to show they are doing something. They can't say that we must wait 2 to 3 months for the second drill pipe to cut off the original (thats going to be tough). The govt. would go crazy, so they must do something to look like they are doing something.
