Member of U.K. parliament stabbed

A member of parliament in the United Kingdom, Stephen Timms of the Labour Party, has been stabbed, the party press office said Friday.

Timms was taken to a London hospital where his condition was described as "not life threatening," the press office said.

Police said a 21-year-old woman was taken into custody. Timms has represented West Ham since 1994.

Let me start by saying I find it hard to understand why anyone would stab anyone but nonetheless here are some facts about Timms.

"Timms was the Financial Secretary to the Treasury between 1999 and 2001, 2004 and 2005 and again between 2008 and 2010. Timms has the largest majority out of all the Members of Parliament."

"He was highly regarded by finance professionals (despite slip-ups)”

"He describes himself as a "Christian Socialist"."

This has all been taken straight from wikipedia and it took me all of 3 minutes, in future I would suggest you commit as little effort as I before speculating on the mundane.

Timms was and still is heavily involved in the UK's finance, allot of people in the UK are not doing so well at the moment financially speaking and are fairly upset about it. Therefore it doesn't take a member of the Giga Society to work out some of the potential motives involved.

Well thanks for the information and the personal insult.

I don't find a politician being attacked mundane, thus my post.

Seems to be just a run of the mill politician, with no known enemies, he's 'Labour' thats like a Democrat in the days when such things used to matter.

The UK is like most places where simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time can get you in some terminal trouble. The 'businessman' look or carying a briefcase, or something that may be a laptop simply clinches the deal.

I hate my own phrase though...wrong place time etc, but its just the way of things and that sums it up quickly.

Dont think the perp will turn up as some deranged petrol attendant, crazed by the likely fuel tax hikes under the new govt, just another thug robbing someone the old fashioned way.

Interesting news event, but too early to speculate, there could be multiple reasons:

Mugging gone wrong.

Marital problems.

Drink/drug involvement.

In all likelihood it's probably quite innocent on his part.

Seems to me a stabbing of a member of parliament, or a congressman or senator is certainly newsworthy.

In this day and time one never knows what or who may be behind something like that. I would be interested in knowing something about the woman that did it and why.

It is believed the former Treasury minister was stabbed twice in the stomach.
Police say a 21-year-old woman is in custody after the incident which happened at about 3.15pm today.
There is no known motive for the attack but there are believed to have been a number of witnesses.

Personally I wouldn't advocate violence - even against an MP (maybe a Catholic priest though :lol.

Innocence is relative of course, in this case I meant innocence in a more mundane non-conspiratorial sense.

I'd be careful cos you never know when they will start taking jokes and empty threats like that seriously.

I completely oppose violence, everyone says stupid stuff when they are angry but very few mean it when they say they want someone dead. But those that do mean it will ruin it for the rest of us by making these rightfully paranoid MP's even more paranoid and placing even more restrictions on our liberty.

Or maybe this was someone paid by the government to carry it out on their behalf in order to have an excuse to restrict us more.
