This has probably been discussed before but do you think zeppelin purposely back mask stairway to heaven?

www.youtube.com...

What I hear in it where it says, there was a little tool shed. Instead I hear: Although it was dooms day, he made us suffer oh sad Satan.

The only convincing backtracking I've heard that doesn't sound like gibberish is The Beatles' "number nine, number nine... (turn me on dead man...), the spoken Intro to Meatloaf's "You took the words right out of my mouth" ("Satan, he is here for you"), and Queen's "Another one bites the dust ("It's fun to smoke marijuana" - it even has a backward piano tone on the normal sound). No matter how often I listened and stressed my ears, I couldn't read anything into Led Zeppelin backwards.

No.

It was all a rumor started by the fact that Jimmy Page owned a house that used to belong to Aleister Crowley.

I can't answer for Led Zeppelin but I have made a few records in my day and I was there during the entire production sequence. There was no intentional backmasking but for fun when the album was completed I ran it to a reel to reel and played it backwards. (we didn't have digital in those days and neither did LZ) I found 2 seperate distinct backmasking occurences in the album. One of the lead singer saying "What man has wrought" and another where he distinct says, "I am the One". These were in 2 seperate songs on the same album. I know it was nodone intentionally but it is there.

Given that, it is possible that LZs could be intentional but I bet it wasn't. If it had been there would have been alot more said of it at the time and not years later.

There is a lot of intentional backmasking on Insane Clown Posse songs.

Especially their side-band Dark Lotus.

The lyrics of stairway to heaven, i believe, are incredibly prophetic of end times as in the ascension. Makes me wonder wether robert plant was "guided" to write it.

Pretty much everyone involved has either denied it or kept silent on it.

If its out there - here is an experiment.

Play the studio version backwards. See if you hear it.

Get every version of "Stairway to Heaven" you can get your hands on (Live versions, old films, bootlegs, etc).

Play all the versions backwards and see if you hear it. If you don't hear it then maybe it was included on purpose. If you do hear it then it may just be some weird coincidence about the way those words sounds backwards.

My reasoning is that I think that even it was done on purpose it would be difficult for Zep to track down every version of the song and put that in there. So, if its in every version - its probably just a weird coincidence with the way those words sounds backwards.

When I was a kid I had a turntable I could put in neutral and spin records backward with my finger. I found that Queen's Flash Gordon soundtrack has backwards masking. I don't remember which track it was, but I remember hearing 'holy holy satan' clear as a bell.

It's my belief that listening to this stuff is like opening a door to things that aren't very friendly.

No, I don't think they did it purposely.

It does sound like words though, if the youtube videos can be believed.
