Also interesting - originally a lot of these had depths of 20-30km, but now I see most have been reset to 10. (This usually means they haven't set a depth yet.)

I heard a rumour from godlike productions (lol) lame, but basicly a guy on their said the birds have been going crazy today in oregon.

That is interesting. I'm in Grants Pass, Oregon and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary.

It's not 3pm yet in OR. The time stamp on that site must be different from local time, so who knows.

The area experiencing these quakes is 2 hours behind Pacific Time, which is also a bit confusing.

I'm back...

Very interesting. I am hoping that this little show is not a build-up to something bigger....perhaps our turn at relieving all that pressure building up around the ring of fire?

It feels a little....unusuall

Edit to add: If you look at THIS map you can see what may be a pattern of energy working it's way up the fault lines. Now I like to always look at the bigger picture. So now includ southern Cali and Baja and you can see why one might begin to worry a little.

Hmmm,

The Pacific Northwest coast gets a 9.0 earthquake + tsunami every half century or so as evidenced in the geologic record.

It has been 300 years since the last one . . .

I have relatives there, but at least they aren't right on the coast where the tsunami will hit. Not reassuring.

Atleast most of the Pacific Northwest is relatively protected by the Puget Sound. Most of the waterfront here is not on the coast... It would be bad, but not as catastrophic.

I live in Oregon and the birds are probably going crazy because this is one of the first sunny warm mornings we have had in a long time.

One thing to note for the people starving for doom in this thread... Mt St Helens is steaming this morning. Local news is keeping an eye on it.

Just wanted to add this article was written in 2009, if you read the last sentence of this article (Similar deep tremors are being tracked at other subduction zones around the globe, including in Alaska, Japan, Mexico and Chile), you will see we have just recently in 2010 had large stress releasing EQ's in Alaska, Mexico(baja) and Chile's large ones. The ONLY one left is the *Cascadia subduction zone*

Activity Update: All volcanoes in the Cascade Range are at normal levels of background seismicity. These include Mount Baker, Glacier Peak, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and Mount Adams in Washington State; Mount Hood, Mount Jefferson, Three Sisters, Newberry Volcano, and Crater Lake, in Oregon; and Medicine Lake volcano, Mount Shasta, and Lassen Peak in northern California.
Mount St. Helens has been at Volcano Alert Level NORMAL (Aviation Color Code GREEN) since July 10, 2008.

Recent Observations: Activity at Cascade volcanoes remained at background levels this week. Small swarms of earthquakes were recorded at Lassen Peak and Mount Rainier. At Lassen, there was a short burst of activity on May 1. The largest earthquake in the swarm was magnitude 2.7. Several small earthquakes occurred beneath Mount Rainier this week, including a small flurry overnight (May 6-7). The largest event was magnitude 1.5. Seismicity at both volcanoes has since declined. Swarms such as these are normal at these volcanoes and not cause for concern. Preparations are in full swing for an Open House at the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory tomorrow (May 8) and for other activities planned to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the May 18, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens.
