We need to shut down all the libraries, burn all the books and just listen to real patriots like Rush and Sean. All that book larnin ain't worth a damn thing.
Turn all the Universities into factories making Bombs for Wars. Money for libraries is just wasted. We need to help Halliburton and Blackwater for more profit, and subsudize the oil companies more better.

Libraries are fine, but nobody should have to pay additional property taxes just for a library. They need to live on a budget like the rest of the world.

It is relative. Some group took the initiative to get those referendums on the ballot. Those with your outlook lost. Simple. It is called democracy and majority rules.

No it's called theft! Democracy is just nicer sounding to the brain washed. Where does the majority get authority to take your stuff against your will? Nowhere! It is nothing but theft anyway you paint it!

You are just being ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with some taxes for schools, but you cant just keep raising and raising them and the more money you get the worse results you produce. They should use those tax dollars to give school vouchers for private schools.

I don't want my tax dollars going for vouchers so the rich can send their kids to private schools. My property taxes are high enough and I don't have any kids. Make up your mind!

You are the one being ridiculous plus being hypocritical as well!

Who's the American idiot now?

Are you freaking kidding me? Private schools are cheaper per kid than public school. You would be paying less dollars for better results.

What is it about "I don't have any kids" that you don't understand???
I don't want to pay my taxes to send anyone's kids to school; public or private.
Or for dumbass wars!! Keep up!!

Well then dont pay them.. How are you any different.. I dont want to pay for a library when I can go to Borders and drink a nice capacino and read a book and they make a little money and I dont get craps by sitting in their seats. We are pretty much like minded.

I don't have kids yet my taxes go towards education. That is how the system works. I don't come on here and complain about it though.

Libraries, like public parks, are meant for all to enjoy. Don't you like parks? (Birdies and squirrels.)

Obviously, you have not visited many libraries in the south.
Let me tell ya, these libraries lag well far behind many I have visited throughout the country.

You actually made me laugh! My parents lived in a senior community of Chander, Arizona, and my father used to complain to the point I thought he was going to have a stroke, because of the tax assesments the area got to build a new high school, which my father referred to as, "The Taj Mahal." How can contributing to a community lose, by providing the best they can for the next generation?

While you think these areas do not need to be funded further, just please consider who uses these services.

OUR children, are the future of this country. You might not even have any, but, to not allow a teacher a decent living wage for the services they provide, makes you and idiot on the subject, in my opinion!

So what is wrong with them selling some coffee and treats to the people that come in? IT might help them bring in a little cash and they can hire even more people to stand around with their thumb up their asses all day.

I believe you have gotten the public library confused with Borders book stores.

They are the ones that have a coffee shop that sells treats and the employees all stand around with their thumbs "brown" all day.

The library in my city is where all the hopelessly homeless go to sleep all day stinking up the place and taking all the chairs.

I believe all library's should charge a nominal admission to enter inside.

It would be free for children and school age students and any resident that could prove residency.

If not cough up some money please.

It would keep the riffraff out.

Yes,the populace is amazingly stupid as a majority.

I live near a community college.

I attended this place years ago and was amazed that there were no courses that would prepare the local students for a career if they did not want to seek a higher degree.

They have been on a building spree recently. The latest edifice being erected is right on the corner for all to see.

What is this structure of higher learning they are building at taxpayers expense, you ask?

A performing arts center.

A frigging theater.

OK, so you don't enjoy the performing arts. How about the people that don't enjoy sports? Should Sports teams stadiums, uniforms, equipment be funded by taxpayer dollars.

How do you feel about taxpayer subsidies for oil companies that show huge profits? War profiteers from taxpayers dollars?
It's a matter of perception and priorities don't you think?

While they may have been highly supportive of libraries, they didn't support full fledged state support of such. Same could be said of Universities.

By controlling the money, they control the situation now, whereas a private library retains control of the product. Libraries are forced to allow complete uncensored internet to children because of who controls the library because the control of libraries is via the City, State and/or Federal regulations.
