Debate: Should We Fear or Welcome Alien Contact?

Aliens and their hybrid freaks will learn to fear the most high through fire and brimstone

The very presence of aliens will trigger wars among humans even if they are benevolent. The fact is as you can see from this thread three groups will form

1, Those who don't want anything to do with them.

2, Those who will be neutral towards them (best and safest option I think)

3, The tree hugging alien welcome flag holders ( you know the sad ones on top of the building who get toasted in independence day)

Obviously group 1 and group 3 will go to war against each other with group 2 being the voice of reason between them.

I'll give my opinion tonight..

We will fear any Alien contact, on two premises, and please do not ask for debate, it is almost sleep time here..

first premises, they will be of not of this world.. It would be like seeing something never seen in our reality.. Read that a couple of times to figure that out..

I think the fear would altercate the message in itself.. Only a few would be able to stand before such a contact.. Yet as we see in our own reality, we would probly, try to make it end somehow.. Since the pain of it would severe our understanding..

I am almost 99.9 percent sure that is how the populous of the World would react..

In pain, hence a fear never felt..

the 2nd premise, would be the fact we are once again primal, which would their fore deliberate the powers that be, in a simple concept, we would find a world leader, screaming and hollering about how we are all confused and we must follow him or her to find the golden plateau or whatever.

I think it has not happened before because well, it would be a tragedy..

I for one is not that fear's contact, it is I that fear's contact for the ones that cannot comprehend what they cannot understand in front of them.. If it does not make sense it will be feared, and the reaction perhaps would be very, very violent.. We cannot get along with ourselves!!! I hate this age I live in..

Being neutral is the same as being apathetic. There is no such thing as a good alien. Doesn't matter if they're tall Nordics, or shapeshifting reptilians. They all want control and submission and serve their own agendas and do not respect mankind or care for them. We are just cattle in their eyes and they need to be taught a lesson they'll never forget.

First, thanks for bringing this topic to discussion.

Second, I must suggest once again to all ATS members to try to avoid using the term "Alien". Nobody on Earth likes to be called like that and I believe "they" don't like it neither. Extraterrestrial is a term that shows at least more respect. if we are willing to make contact.

And if one of us make contact, first question should be: "Whats is your name?", the same thing you do when you meet someone...I guess.

In acient cultures, Extraterestrials had been called angels, demons or even gods. Others refer to them as brothers or visitors from other planets and galaxies.

They tought us how to build pyramids, they come from the stars. Who knows how much more we can learn from them?

My 2 cents.

Some very valid points here guys quite interesting i must say.

Just taking some numbers down once we get a few more pages of peoples views i will post the resluts for and against.

Hawking is correct in his own way of thinking .. I wouldn't say he's entirely wrong ..
Most people think of life from elsewhere as 'humanoid' in nature .. or big in size to some degree if not humanoid ..
Hawking has a point that most of life from elsewhere may be microscopic or very small in nature .. some of which enter our atmosphere on meteors and the like .. if they survive entry ..

You'd think that the bigger ETs being as advanced technologically as they are ... would be able to find ways of sustaining themselves even on their own planets if their natural resources were depleted .. so why would such intelligent entities travel so far far away from their home to come here ..?
They certainly have nothing to gain from us at any level ..
If they were bored eventually and just wanted to make new friends .. they would just show themselves to us instead of covertly going through our useless government leaders ... or selecting certain individuals for abductions or whatever ..
last I checked .. making friends is easy .. I assume they have nothing to fear from our weapons ..

Why do they hide like a thief in the night ..? you know.. "now you see me .. now you don't .." when they are obviously here ...

They may be up to something .. watch out ..

If you want to co-exist with roaches in your apartment .. you wouldn't hide .. you just turn on the light .. watch them scamper .. and do your business in the kitchen and leave .. if some of them eventually get the balls to not scamper .. they'll be there with you ... happily coexisting ..

Who cares what they don't like to be called alien. That's what they are, they're alien and strangers. I have no idea why so many people have open arms towards these freaks. It's like the ones who have infested in our government are coming to this website and posting this bull#.

You said cultures well were in a new culture these days and we call them aliens.

I'd not trust them sadly, unless they somehow convince me of course (never say never). That is and was my opinion before all this media fuss with aliens.

I think there are many species, races, sub-races, factions and sub-factions of aliens, I don't think they all live in some happy go lucky brotherhood of ultimate joy and pleasure - that's naive.

But then again I also think we're "spotted" long, long time ago and are already being "taken care of" one way or another. Considering what kind of ships have been reported by people, one can only assume "space" isn't as big to them as it is to us. So, we're probably under some protection by the galactic UN or... something, for the time being... But trust? Now, I trust god only.

I always had a wacky theory that maybe thier is a fedaration type group of aliens at war with another species and who is to say they might see us as a powerful ally to have.

On giving it some thought I think it is entirely down to the context of the moment…

If an alien being approached me whilst I was having my nightly cigarette in the back garden, it’s safe to say I would be very alarmed, panic and possibly react violently. However if an alien being were contact me via text or e-mail to arrange an encounter I wouldn’t be the slightest fearful upon meeting it. Astonished, but not fearful.

Define the context of this hypothetical contact scenario more clearly.

they would be ALIEN, to our understanding.. Not of this world, our rules, our looks, they would be the weirdest thing ever seen.. Like seeing a color that is not in a primal color to mix with..

It will not be a Star trek thing.. Whatever is more intelligent then us right now, are comparison to our gods.. The fact that they would have ships to get to us, would be well, out of this world.. Something we have never seen.. It would be the strangest scariest thing you ever seen.. And yes Fear would ensue.. Morons would try to kill it or break it or whatever..

Does not take rocket science to figure that out..

Let me ask you this question, why would I try to welcome a stranger that's already in my house and hiding in my closet? and as soon as I come close he runs off.

Furthermore there are consequences to contact...what if human culture is subverted by alien culture??

Its likely that everything about human culture will become 'boring' or 'too human'.

It will become unpopular to be 'too human' ON OUR VERY OWN PLANET.

You can bet your butt that all of these space hippies on this thread will welcome the change with open arms.

i think that the reason so many people on this thread welcome the alien with so trusting and open arms is because "THEY HATE BEING HUMAN".

They dont WANT to be a human.

They live in there PATHETIC life thinking ET will bring adventure and happiness into it "oh man..if only i could go and explore the galaxy!"

if you watched the movie avatar...the people were chearing for the Nav'vi to KILL THE HUMANS...our very own species!!

There were even people who got depressed because they 'missed pandora'...PURE INSANITY!!
