Without knowing exactly when, where, how and in what part of the sky the pic was taken, how is anyone supposed to have an idea what planet/star this might be....

Hmmmm ?

In the thread link posted, the poster says it was a North west direction.

I can validate that Venus is in the North West, low to the horizon right now, and has just recently appeared there. Venus was in the East and was a morning star till recently.

This seems to happen regularly when Venus pops from one direction to the other...and she is SO bright...if people are not observing Venus and her path regularly, it does seem as a 'new object' or 'something not right'.

Last time Venus went from her night time position and switch to her Eastern morning position...so many threads on so many forums were created....'what is this star' ect.....and now here in the last week, since she has moved back to the western night sky, again, we see many threads and many people curious.

It is very hard to capture a good phote of a star or planet. Try it for yourself....go out tonight....point your camera at Venus (early evening, she will set before midnight for sure)....and try to take some picks. You will see it is hard to take a 'still picture' without making Venus look blury, or even disembodied....it is hard to get a pick that shows up as what you see with your naked eye. This happens alot with moon pics too...the photographer needs to be very still, might even have to mount the camera....and zooming in can effect the image too.

I cant say for sure this is Venus, but his pics do look like many pics I have taken, when trying to take pics of the stars and planets. Many times, stars and planets wont even show in a pic. Takes good settings, fooling with the camera....unless you just KNOW what you are doing.

Venus is extremely bright and does draw attention. Venus is the second brightest object in the sky, the moon being the first (for night time sky). She seems to 'pop' out of the sky, literally.

I would bet money on it, defiantly, its Venus. But many dont want to hear its Venus.

If this guy was taken photos in this direction, depending on the time, he would not of been able to miss Venus, she is so obvious. If the pics were taken well past midnight...then there might be more to this.

earthsky.org...

Can someone take a still shot from Stellarium and show that Venus is not directly west....but somewhat northwest please. For some reason my computer will not save still shots from Stellarium.

The star is a squiggle because the camera was on a slow shutter speed. I used to take my expensive cannon and wave the camera around while focusing on a single bright light when I was first learning to use my camera.

That's because venus is unusually bright, unlike any other star.
It's either everyones using Venus as an excuse, or alot of people mistake venus for supernatural things, and given human nature, which seems more likely?

No it isn't.
It wasn't last year and it won't be next year.
