So, by this logic, I should be allowed to use coc aine until it kills me, mutilate my body, or commit suicide without intervention from others. Caring about other people (to include potential people) is one of the things that makes us human and unique.

But I forgot, self-responsibility is only allowed when the thing someone is doing is supported by another.

When I was living in the United States I was a member of Voices For Planned Parenthood, I know I'm going to catch hell for this and get called a heartless monster, but I do honestly believe that life begins at birth, period. I also try not to get into the issue of abortion with Americans any more, it's too heated a debate and religion plays far too large a part in the minds of most people regarding it.

However, my wife, being an American, and highly pro-choice had an interesting view on this once that really stuck with me: "If a woman could impose a thing like forcing the carrying of a child upon a man, it would not only be made illegal instantly but the woman would be thrown in jail for the rest of her life."

I completely agree, in my view, most anti-abortion legislation (including this) is just another way for conservative males to control the female body.

Independent breathing for one haha. That is a part of it though, one is independent of the mother's body, the other is still in a parasitic (not symbiotic) relationship within the body of the mother.

That's a massive distinction in my mind.

And you trivialize life so, in a way that honestly disgusts me.

Not at all in fact, the previous poster asked me a question of a definitional nature and I answered using biological rationalism. I am not saying that babies are "parasites" like a tapeworm or something, just that the actual biological definition for a single-benefiting dependency is parasitic. I make no value judgment there at all, simply an observational one.

My views on the medical aspects of such things are quite emotionless, I would not deny that at all, but I have put quite a bit of thought into them, and been faced with situations involving people very close to me where I had them put to the test. In the end, yes my decisions were quite sterile and unemotional.

It's not at all easy to make such decisions, but I do not regret them. I can see how they might seem rather depressing and detached to others though.
