The BP response to the oil rig sinking and resulting oil leak is questionable, at best. At last report, 300 miles of coast will likely be affected, ruining fishing and shrimping, thus the livelihoods of thousands.

The environmental impact is predicted to be worse than the Valdez oil spill in Alaska 20 years ago (which is still not fully cleaned up). Birds, and sea life, and life on shore is in peril.

For these over 300 miles of coast to be affected, BP has only supplied 30 miles of boom to "corral" the oil. They are just now bringing in 60 more miles of boom. It is too little too late.

Over a week after the spill!

The oil patch from the leak is only getting bigger...

With the elections in the UK, and the awful and lacking response from BP, will this affect the USA/UK relations? Already the two countries have weakened ties. Will this exacerbate the weakening link of the countries in the long run?

Or could this be the death blow to the two countries' economies, leading to a final collapse??]

Or does the US government just say "Oh well, mistakes happen...so what if you created our worst environmental disaster?"

The costs of clean-up alone will hurt the US economy more than it is already...

I have a feeling if the US calls the UK company to task, if will strain relations with the UK government.

The clean-up costs combined with the loss of business in the Gulf area will be huge. Final economic collapse coming? Europe is still having money troubles...]

What do you think?

a bigger concern is the small minded people who will turn anti uk because of a british company screwed up the whole ecosystem in the gulf of mexico because of outdated safety standards

In a class action lawsuit just filed against BP for negligence in this spill, Halliburton is named as a co-defendant. It just gets fishier and deeper...
