With the upcoming G20 summit looming over downtown Toronto, the event is casting an increasingly larger shadow, one that now stretches as far west as Trinity Bellwoods Park.
Summit officials have chosen the park as the designated protesting area for the G20 summit on June 26 and 27. That means demonstrators — at least, the rule-abiding ones — will be wielding placards and shouting through megaphones from inside a 37-acre residential park, located some two kilometres west of the summit’s outer boundary, or so-called “yellow zone.”

Does the city really think that the protesters will all politely go to "the designated protesting area?" Honestly, who comes up with these little "nuggets of wisdom?" They will obviously flood the downtown core. The best we can hope for is that the protest will be relatively peaceful and there won't be too much damage. Anyone who possibly can would be well advised to stay out of the area for the duration of the summit. It could get ugly.

Oi, be careful!

A similar thing happened at APEC, after the march, everyone went to this park, it was surrounded by police, and one by one they went and arrested all the leaders of the march.

Hah I'm 20 Mins from there, looks like I will be going.

I'll bring the camera and post a video. Don't worry, I'll be sure to have a bike and be going around to make sure i don't miss the riots.

I live about 15 minutes from this park also...

what's hilarious about them choosing this particular location for the protestors is that it's right in the middle of a pure hipster douchebag neighborhood. Everyone looks like the most current fashion trend and they all love their $7 coffee. I can't even imagine how much this is going to piss off the peeps who live there.

Chippy's should do some pretty good business with all the hungry protestors!

If any of the board members are going by the park... check out Conspiracy Culture bookstore at Queen/Roncesvalles (about 10 minute drive west on Queen).

Judging by her join date, and her only other post which is near identical to that one, I'd say its a possibility...Or possibly just a good soul wanting to join a protest and wanted to ask on a website? This is what happens when there are infiltrators in all types of crowds, its cowardly.

Edit to stay on topic - I think its also cowardly to designate a park as the only place you may protest. I don't understand why our leaders cannot hear the voice of the people. Well, I guess I do understand why, can any change happen?

ELDERS ! Get your elders off their bottoms and away from the TV and get them out there ! I was sickened by the little girls being tossed about at the Pittsburgh effort, and I insist on calling out the elders!
Listen, what do we have to lose? We lived our times, had our fun. Many are lonely, bored, maybe some of us are single, kids all grown...why can't we take the front lines??
Kids, they will have a record, maybe be put on the list, be scared, be frowned upon for employment, maybe they have little ones at home.
We elders have none of these issues and not a lot to lose, nor look forward to in comparison, we should take the heat.
PS Kids, please bail us out, stop texting and get us back. lol.
That is my opinion about protests. Let those with the least to lose go out front, whether it be to film or to speak or to stand.

Anyone who wanted to find out where protests are happening, buy you local socialists newspaper, that or, just google local protests happening in your area, but unless you live in major cities there probably wont be any.
