A very interesting story... the gas source they mention is a geologic formation known as a Clathrate... under high pressure and low temperature, it is
basically an ice crystal "cage" that traps methane... they are known to exist along the continental slopes in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans... It
has been estimated that there may be sufficient methane trapped under the ocean to power the entire planet for 2000+ years at current consumption
rates.
Clathrates have also been theorized to have caused many of the ship disappearances in the Bermunda Triangle, as well as the possibility of causing
widespread disaster in the event of a mass release, per this article, or worse yet, in the event of a large seismic event, a mass release and
simultaneous detonation....
