Islam Siddiqui is appointed to be chief of agricultural negotiaton in the office of the U.S. trade representative. A former pesticide lobbyist and part of a pesticide trade group that lobbies to weaken environmental laws.

He wants to ensure the perpetuation of pesticide and fossil-fuel-intensive policies and overseen the development of the first national organic labeling standards. When he allowed sewage sludge-fertilized, genetically modified, and irradiated food to be labeled as organic before public protest forced more stringent standards.

He is trying to make everyone believe that pesticides are good to use and that they should allow growers to use them on organic food. This is not someone we want in control of our environment; someone that is saying that pesticides are not pollutants.

www.mediafreedominternational.org...

To me this is worrisome news, and Obama continues to appoint questionable people to positions of power.

Pesticides are already a problem concerning the quality of food and with Siddiqui in this position I think it may only get worse. I for one want to know that any organic food I buy is actually organic and with the way standards may change we may never know what is actually being used in the production of our food.

Any thoughts on this article ATS?

I'm sick of this kind of thing.

Science recognises that Bio-Dynamic agriculture is far superior. Yet decisions and progress is ever moving away from it. Its so freaking stupid. Yes its worrisome.

I don't even know what else to say, this just pisses me off.

Another czar for us. And why does he appoint someone with a name
of Islam? What the beans is this country going to? We have enough
poison in the White House without a pesticide peddler.

Well, add another LOBBYIST to Obama's list of LOBBYISTS he has appointed to positions.

Hmmm, sounds like SOP.

Appoint someone that will push the Mega Corp positions and screw over the public.

Still wondering when I am going to be able to tell what is a GMO and a non GMO.

Since companies are no longer allowed to actually label their products that way.

This just makes me sick. Voting is definitely rendered pointless by assanine decisions like these. These appointments have gone straight corporatist from the door.

I agree with all of you replies it is getting to the point where the public has absolutely no control over what goes into the foods we eat or how they are presented to us.

There really is no way for the average citizen to tell the quality of their food and now we have to rely on people like this?

Obama had such possibilities.

Then he became Bush on Steroids.

I think it's a bit much to call him "a bush on steroids" - Read a book call The End of America by Naomi Wolf[?] to get a fuller understanding of what was happening under Bush.

Obama is just continuing some of Bush's ideology - he's no worse.
