I don't have all the ritual material, but from what is given in the Satanic Bible the aim of the ritual is to get the mind of the practitioner focused on a specific goal (as does all magic, including prayer). The magic however happens through the mind, the energy, or "will" of the Satanist. To some this is purely motivational, who knows, perhaps others do believe in the spirits of the four directions and so forth as literal? There are no real rules.
Many satanists are only philosophical and forgo ritual completely.

yeah, i think that a true satanist understands the point of the rituals has nothing to do with satan--the entity that christians believe in--and not satanists. and any religious person seeing the rituals can think what they want about spirits or conjuring or "magick" (lol @ prayer--magical) but none of those things are 'satan'

Yahweh is the Hebrew name for god, so you are saying satan protects you from god??

I am well aware that Yahweh is the Hebrew god, but he existed long before the Hebrews came along, and was probably first worshiped as Enlil of the Sumerians. I am not saying that Satan necessarily protects me from Yahweh, but that Satan and Yahweh are in battle, and that I have chosen to side with Satan.

I have a question.

I can see why many people would disagree with the tenets of conventional Christianity. But why choose to worship a deity, Satan, which almost by definition, is supposed to represent pure evil? Why not choose a deity that at least represents good qualities.

Is it perhaps the entity you call "Satan" is very different from the Christian concept of Satan? Perhaps your Satan is purely good and has qualities Christians would associate with Jesus or Muslims would associate with Allah?

The descriptions of Satan in Judeo-Christian scripture are, for the most part, negative. This is because it's a book written by many Yahweh worshipers. We should expect no different. But, in viewing the character of Yahweh throughout the Hebrew and Christian testaments, who would not want to side with the deity in opposition to him? It only takes a perusal through the Judeo-Christian scriptures to see that Yahweh is not a good god, but rather is manipulative and almost bi-polar.

Satan represents freedom of thought and action for me. He is not a slave-driving god, but is rather a god who brings light and freedom to enslaved human minds.

i thought that technically to be a satanist you must not have a *real* belief in satan.

so technically a theistic satanist is an oxymoron, isn't it???

lol

worshipping the deity named satan would be...something else...lol or should be called something else because its very misleading.

I guess these assumptions are part and parcel of the other, modern/symbolic Satanist disinformation machine. There are LaVeyan Satanists who believe in Satan as a symbol, but not a real deity. There are also theistic Satanists who worship Satan as a god. I am a theistic Satanist, and no, that is not an oxymoron.

I know what you mean, most of the top level "Christians" are really Satanists so I always wondered why they are always talking bad about their own religion?

TBN aka The Beast Network is involved in so much dirt its not funny.

Maybe you guys should smack them around a little, tell them that they don't have to hide anymore because in today's world most people will accept Satan as long as he brings them something nice.

IPOD's, Blackberry's, Cars, Cable T.V, just tell them to sign on the dotted line, I mean I can just imagine him laughing at the stupidity of those who claim to be against him but are really wrapped around his finger.

"I don't serve Satan, I am a Christian" He didn't mention he supports the war, loves watching the brown people get turned into hamburger and jacks off 3 times a day to extreme S&M.

They claim to love Jesus and Mankind but its all B.S, they only love themselves.

The details may vary person to person but you get the idea.

I myself have read to much about men like Aleister Crowley and what he did to children to think that Satanism is harmless or even good but its also a free country full of greedy wicked people so you should have no problem finding recruits, hell I would be shocked to find out that people were not beating your doors down.

That being said, I am always on the lookout for Satanists in my neighborhood because I know what some of them do to children, I have seen it with my own eyes and I know that all this "hurt no one" is a load of B.S.

All organized religions hurt people and abuse, if you look at what some men have done in the name of Christ its not hard to imagine what the Satanists are capable of.

Don't be offended though, I will admit that this planet is his for now as are the majority of my countrymen even if they don't know it yet.

You have? I hope you reported what you saw to the authorities!

Satanism, as codified by LaVey, celebrates life on the mortal coil. A taking of life would be counter intuitive to a true Satanist unless it was necessary to protect oneself.

Every report of Satanic child abuse has been rebutted and debunked starting with that ridiculous Michelle Remembers debacle.

Conversely, if you are really looking for a religious tradition that victimizes children, I'd suggest you set your sights on the Vatican.

We who uphold LaVeyan tradition generally see theistic Satanists as heretical Christians as the 'god' they choose to worship is one that was created by the Abrahamic religions. If one believes in Satan as a being then one must also accept the canon of Christianity.

As for why there exists disinformation... simple. A huge portion of the world population is either Christian, Jewish or Islamic. As such, they've perfected the art of scapegoating and look outside of themselves for causes of 'evil'. Who better to blame than those who take the moniker of their adversary as their own?

I was really excited to see a thread like this because I've always wondered the same thing...

But then I saw that you're a THEISTIC satanist? You make less sense than a Christian because in order to believe in Satan, you must believe in the Christian (or other) version of a God... and if you believe in God, why would you go out of your way to piss him off by worshipping his *one* sole enemy?

Theistic satanism is from thousands of years ago and is a result of people learning so much about Satan and his evil powers, they assumed that he must be more powerful than their god and they should be trying to please him, and not God- as God's the forgiving one and Satan is "the punisher".

If you don't believe in God then I honestly don't know where Satan came from...?

I, on the other hand, like the Atheistic version of Satanism (although I can't get on board with the magic conjuring part). LaVey was a very enlightened man and the first half of his satanic bible (before the list of rituals and spells) is quite honestly the best thing I've ever read and I want to live my life according to those guidelines. There is no sacrificing- it's a religion all about worshipping yourself and acting the way you want to as long as it doesn't hurt anyone or anything else. It's only called Satanism out of animosity for the Church, and who could blame poor Anton- he was a church organist until he founded the Church of Satan.

I always thought that attacks on Satanism were made-up lies about LaVeyan Satanism, but apparently there really are Satan worshippers out there. You have to be prepared to be attacked and slandered if you're worshipping the antagonist of a large religion that gets mad at people for not adhering to their rules- especially if you're worshipping a being they believe is responsible for all the evil that goes on in this world.

In Christian mythology Satan is deemed evil. Satan was created by the Christians to try and sway the Pagans to convert by taking one of their Gods and incorporating its image(cloven-hoof, horns, etc) with a major figure, Lucifer, who was demonized from day 1.

I would think they still call him Satan as a blatant defiance of all religions worshiping God(Yahweh,Allah). I think Lucifer would be more appropriate, following the abandoned son and "underdog".
