The thrust of the Malabar CY 10 exercise this year would be on Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Surface Firings, Maritime Interdiction Operations (MIO), Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) and Submarine Operations.

The CTF will include the Cruiser USS Shiloh (CG 67), Destroyers USS Chaffee (DDG 90), USS Lassen (DDG 82) and Frigate USS Curts (FFG 38). In addition, one Los Angeles class nuclear powered submarine, USS Annapolis (SSN 760), two P3C Orion aircraft and a 28-member US Navy Special Forc

Such war games assume increased significance in the current geopolitical context. North Korea is on brink while Iran is gearing up for a possible conflict with Israel and USA. China is steadily expanding its naval influence to cover the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean region.

A few days back, Iran said that it has developed a new speed boat capable of destroying enemy warships. Iran is also holding its war games in the Persian Gulf region. This region is even more critical economically because most of the oil tanker traffic pass through this area. Any disturbance in this region would adversely affect the global economy as well.
