Chicago cops go nuts, illegally raid private property

Six men in Chicago say their property was raided by twenty police-- armed with assault rifles, tasers, and mace, and backed up by a hovering helicopter-- without provocation, justification, or even a freaking warrant.

The cops' apparent reasoning? While the police were patting down a group of ten- and eleven-year-old kids, the men yelled to the cops that the kids were 'OK', and not causing trouble. This seems to have proven sufficient grounds to assault these men, electrocute them, Mace them, and slap them with tickets for what are described in the source article as "various offenses".

Is this an isolated incident? How do my fellow ATSers feel about this?

How far up the ladder does this go-- were these cops rogue idiots, acting without the knowledge or approval of their superiors, or is the root cause of their behavior something more endemic in American law enforcement? Which is worse, the idea of our police forces being composed of such unstable individuals, or the idea of the system itself being prone to corruption?

How do we protest this sort of behavior on the part of rogue cops, without inciting the ire of legitimate ones (or even corrupt ones with similarly corrupt buddies behind the judicial bench)?

How far will it go, where will it end, and what must we do to stop it?

It's what happens in a police state, and the US is becoming a police state. It has too because when the economy implodes, martial law will be enacted.

What? Oh no, this is fine this is. And so is shoving health care down our throats. And hey, 60% taxation is ok too! And spying and wiretapping? No problem! And illegal immigration? What, are you kidding me? White man must move out and give the country to illegals! Do it now!

Maybe it would be ok, if we had always been this way..we wouldnt know better..

I guess Alex Jones was right..America, the police state.

If it becomes common enough, people will stop laying down and taking it. The push back will start with the gangs, and the constitutionalists, but in time, even the regular people will start using molotovs, rocks, whatever they have if they don't have guns. And if the police try to take away guns, then it's really going to hit the fan.

Yuppers. This is one of the most disgusting stories I've seen in a while. THESE are the people who "protecting and serving?" At least they're honest about that part....They protect the rich and serve the poor for dinner.

Honestly, did you read the external source article? Have you ever read a legitimate news article that didn't even make an attempt to get a comment from the police department? That source, Courthouse News, is a wire service for lawyers to post their cases and try out their arguments. Seriously, if you believe that there was nothing more to that story, you are just simply looking for ways to bash cops.

There has got to be a *lot* more to this story than is reported here. Why would the police storm the houses as they allegedly did for no reason at all?

There has got to be some history here, or some unreported facts.
