Six men in Chicago say their property was raided by twenty police-- armed with assault rifles, tasers, and mace, and backed up by a hovering
helicopter-- without provocation, justification, or even a freaking warrant.
The cops' apparent reasoning? While the police were patting down a group of ten- and eleven-year-old kids, the men yelled to the cops that the kids
were 'OK', and not causing trouble. This seems to have proven sufficient grounds to assault these men, electrocute them, Mace them, and slap them
with tickets for what are described in the source article as "various offenses".
Is this an isolated incident? How do my fellow ATSers feel about this?
How far up the ladder does this go-- were these cops rogue idiots, acting without the knowledge or approval of their superiors, or is the root cause
of their behavior something more endemic in American law enforcement? Which is worse, the idea of our police forces being composed of such unstable
individuals, or the idea of the system itself being prone to corruption?
How do we protest this sort of behavior on the part of rogue cops, without inciting the ire of legitimate ones (or even corrupt ones with similarly
corrupt buddies behind the judicial bench)?
How far will it go, where will it end, and what must we do to stop it?
