Iran is increasing its paramilitary Qods force operatives in Venezuela while covertly continuing supplies of weapons and explosives to Taliban and other insurgents in Afghanistan and Iraq, according to the Pentagon’s first report to Congress on Tehran’s military.

The report on Iranian military power provides new details on the group known formally as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF), the Islamist shock troops deployed around the world to advance Iranian interests. As a venezuelan i would love to say that i understand, but i dont get your point, at least i dont see the relation between the political situation and your problems with islam treatment of women.

The situation here doesnt have religious roots, what happen here is what you get when people with poor education is allowed to vote, they choose a populist guy who makes a lot of promises that sounds cool to them, and a lot of the retoric against the United States was fueled by Bush and his administration, and now is a little late for Chavez to stop because it has become a very important part of his political propaganda.

Anyway, i know there is a lot of idealist people who really believes that the United States goverment have some evil reason to speak about this kind of things, but i have family in the military here, in Venezuela, and i dont need the Pentagon saying that to know that there is a lot of truth in their words, there are iranians, but not as much as cubans.

Why do people defend Iran? I mean, I don't want war with them, and if we did go to war with them I'd oppose it...but they aren't "innocent." Neither is Hugo Chavez, if either of them wielded the power of the U.S. military or a larger army, they would not be peaceful. These people are disgusting, and as much as I hate Barack Obama's policies, I'd take him any day over Hugo Chavez or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Also, the article is a classic prop-job. Nebulous claims with little sourced material. How do they know they are being shipped over? By what means? How many? Why would they send troops there?

I know they have defense ties, and have had military technology exchanges....which may be the explanation for this as well. When the US sells military technology to a nation that did not previously have that technology, we also send over advisors to train them on how to use the technology.

Personally, I don't like either Ahmedinijad or Chavez very much at all, however, Venezuela (just as people say about Israel) has the right to self defense. They are facing some threats from not only their neighbours, but also from the US.

Also, nations, like individuals, have the right to go after the "best deal" to save money. Sometimes we buy stuff from people that other people don't like simply because it's the cheapest. If Iran is making the best deal on whatever hardware they're getting...by all means...save a buck.

For Americans to ramp up war and demonise national leaders for political propagandistic purposes and then continue to demonise these leaders for taking steps to defend themselves (in their mind, they are defending themselves...in our mind WE are defending OURSELVES) from a perceived threat while at the same time stirring up reasons for them to act this way in the first place is hypocrisy in the highest.

For us to sit back and say "SEE?! They're buying guns!!! Evildoers!" After we turn the rhetoric machine towards them is silly to say the least. Everyone seems to WANT war. What are we? Crazy?

As i say, im Venezuelan and in my mind, no, we are not defending ourselves, Chavez is defending his political program, is a little hard to understand for idealist people living in other countries, but Chavez had said very clearly that the weapons are for defend the revolution against the "Empire" but must important, against us, the venezuelans who oppose him, he already said that if we win more seats in the congress in the next election, its gonna be war, men, believe me, things are ugly and a lot of us are scared to hell, all days, every time he speaks he treat us, that they are going to take our houses, property, that they are going to fight us, Chavez is the kind of man who thinks that every oposition to him is treason, he think we are betraying him and betraying the country because we dont want socialism.

I would love to defend my country against an external treat, but i dont really believe the US are going to intervene, the bullets are not for them, but for us.
