That Iranian cleric sounds just as loopy as their president. I wonder if he honestly believes that garbage.

Do you even know what the cleric is referring to ?? Or are you just joining the hate fest??
I'm intrigued and willing to take the bait. Do you believe what the cleric is claimed to have said? That earthquakes are caused by immorality? Or do you think that the cleric didn't actually say this and it's either outright lies or taken completely out of context?

What I believe the cleric is referring to is sins, and the belief that GOD controls everything in this Universe, that being said, sins bring's GOD's anger upon us,
I don't believe that is loony, especially if you can't disprove it nor prove it at present time.
That is faith I suppose..

Well, I'd be surprised if anyone actually interpreted that any differently - so I'm not sure what the problem is there. I think this is how most people are interpreting this statement.
This creates all kinds of problems though. Firstly, seismology doesn't need an Islamic god to explain how and why earthquakes happen. Secondly, the Islamic god must be very selective as to using these earthquakes when he gets angry over sin.
Where I live, I see 'immodest' women every time I leave the house (as well as women in full burqa - I live in an area very heavily populated by Muslims and can see a Mosque outside the window as I type) and yet I'm not aware of the Islamic god causing earthquakes here. In fact, I'm not aware of a single earthquake in modern history (the last few hundred years at least) that was significant enough to kill anyone or level buildings.

Sigh. It is loony and an archaic, bronze age way of thinking to explain events. Resting the plausibility that this is god's anger at our "sins" on the basis that it cannot be proven or disproven is not rational. In this specific case, we know exactly what causes earthquakes and it has nothing to do with humans doing things with their genitals that religions don't like. Nor does it have anything to do with any other "sins". Let's start thinking in terms of the knowledge of the age.
