Exactly like when environmentalists ... umm. Hmm, I guess they haven't actually accomplished anything.

I like how a nut-job Islamic cleric claims something ignorant and this turns in to an all religion hate fest. Just don't forget evolution and environmentalism are as much of religions as anything else.

You just called me lazy and dumb, where's your evidence for such a claim? I seriously need for you to bring evidence in backing your claim that I'm lazy and dumb.

Start with the lazy comment..

Sounds like something another zealot said not long ago....anyone remember our old pal Pat Robertson:

On his Christian Broadcasting Network show yesterday, Rev. Pat Robertson said that the nation of Haiti has been devastated by a large earthquake because its people "made a pact with the devil."

"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it," Robertson said. "They were under the heel of the French ... and they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.'"

"True story," he continued. "And the devil said, 'OK, it's a deal.' Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after another."

Every religion does this....

Religion in general tends to say some pretty ignorant and scary stuff.

Yup, it sure does and sadly enough there are people who lap it up and swallow it hook, line, and sinker.

That Iranian cleric sounds just as loopy as their president. I wonder if he honestly believes that garbage.

I was referring to his inane comment in which the OP is about. Not joining any hate fest. If you want to fight look somewhere else.

I'm intrigued and willing to take the bait. Do you believe what the cleric is claimed to have said? That earthquakes are caused by immorality? Or do you think that the cleric didn't actually say this and it's either outright lies or taken completely out of context?

Well come on now people. It might sound crazy at first to blame women dressing up and provoking premarital sex for causing earthquakes. But it's just as plausible as blaming global warming.

Nope not a bait, although if feels like one.

What I believe the cleric is referring to is sins, and the belief that GOD controls everything in this Universe, that being said, sins bring's GOD's anger upon us, I don't believe that is loony, especially if you can't disprove it nor prove it at present time.

That is faith I suppose..

I suspect that if any of the individuals here started a debate in regards to this comment, the cleric will try to prove his comments indirectly, which would be interesting non the less..

That is one of the most IGNORANT things I have ever read. Islam for dumb and lazy people?

Wow, you really need to take a course in religious studies my friend. The Kuran is a violent book, Islam is the basic culture that sprung from it. The different sides of Islam have totally different interpretations and views of their book and totally different cultures to go along with it.

I urge you to spend some time with some people of Islam, I guarantee you will change your mind. Some of the smartest and most intriguing people I have ever met were of the Islamic faith.

To blanket statement all these people as dumb and lazy, makes you look dumb and lazy for being so misinformed.

As far as Islam being the only religion with control over people, I beg to differ. The catholic church along with many other denominations of Christianity have total control over their people. Morally and Spiritually.

Deny Ignorance

Well, I'd be surprised if anyone actually interpreted that any differently - so I'm not sure what the problem is there. I think this is how most people are interpreting this statement.

This creates all kinds of problems though. Firstly, seismology doesn't need an Islamic god to explain how and why earthquakes happen. Secondly, the Islamic god must be very selective as to using these earthquakes when he gets angry over sin.

Where I live, I see 'immodest' women every time I leave the house (as well as women in full burqa - I live in an area very heavily populated by Muslims and can see a Mosque outside the window as I type) and yet I'm not aware of the Islamic god causing earthquakes here. In fact, I'm not aware of a single earthquake in modern history (the last few hundred years at least) that was significant enough to kill anyone or level buildings.

There must be something to this punishment for sin idea the more I think of it. Look at what all the United States did in the past - and now they have Obama.

As I said previously, his comments are in regards to GOD's anger, which can be in any form, not just earth quakes..

Just because earthquakes has not happened in your area, does not mean other issues don't exist.

And can you help me find the full speech please, I failed to find it.. Not good at searching unfortunately..

Sigh. It is loony and an archaic, bronze age way of thinking to explain events. Resting the plausibility that this is god's anger at our "sins" on the basis that it cannot be proven or disproven is not rational. In this specific case, we know exactly what causes earthquakes and it has nothing to do with humans doing things with their genitals that religions don't like. Nor does it have anything to do with any other "sins". Let's start thinking in terms of the knowledge of the age.

Wait, you know exactly how earthquakes are caused?

In order for us to know exactly how something operates we must take in to consideration everything, and to tell you the truth, we don't know everything, therefore we don't know exactly how earthquakes are caused, for all we know it could be triggered by GOD.

Let me put it this way:
Just because a door can open automatically doesn't mean you can't open it manually..

Iran is a police state run by a religon thats almost as far off the mark and corrupt as Catholocism. They will essnetially say and/or do whatever it takes to keep the populace in line.

The sad part is i fear most of them know its complete BS but its just easier to follow the herd, then to oppose it and be killed for some trumped up charge.

Interesting twist, common to religious authoritarians of all stripes.

btw - Has anyone been in an earthquake, hurricane, tornado or any other major earth event with a lover?

...Fact is, we're hardwired to hump like rabbits and save the species when we're under such threats. Which why some people become adrenalin junkies: the sexual experience is substantially more fulfilling when the entire species is on the line.
