Wet kisses from man’s best friend could soon be showing us more than love. Researchers have found that the DNA on Fido’s tongue could be the key to new treatments for rare cancers in both humans and dogs.

The study used saliva, blood and tumor samples of dogs volunteered by private pet owners for testing in hopes that by studying canine cancer, oncologists can determine the cause of human cancers.

How cool is this? Turly mans best friend-yet again. I sure hope they are onto something here.

People may bark at it.... but when it comes to saying your life from cancer-slobber away Fido!!!!

I have two bernard type breeds I could be a large scale distributor. Want a couple of gallons? Eat a pack of cookies in front of them.

Nice! I think we should be researching what's in cat saliva as well. I can't help but think that there's more of a reason for a cat's bath than simply physical grooming. Saliva for all!

Just remember that your dog's washcloth is also his toilet paper.

This is gonna make everyone go "ewwww" - I'm not averse to dog-slobber, big dog-lover and they're great, affectionate animals. I also think people should be exposed to germs - so you can build a strong and healthy immune system.

Here's the real "ewww" part, I have a 20mm flesh-tunnel in my right ear, which can get a bit stinky - kinda belly-button fluff smell. I have never met a dog that doesn't love the smell of this.

What do I cure for dogs?

If these animals are driven by instinct then there must be some reason they immediately lick their wounds and the wounds of others. It cant because blood and flesh taste like candy.

I bet dog drool would make a nice lubricant too. Maybe replace oil. So slimy.

Well that's pretty cool but it dosent surprise me. I worked at a kennel and noticed how some dogs seem to have the ability to sniff out infections, cuts, sickness, ect. and to heal them. One dog in particular,Elsa, kept persistently sniffing and licking the breast area of another seemingly healthy dog named Chardonnay, the next time Chardonnay came in her owner told us that they just found out Chardonnay had cancer in her breasts.Go figure, Elsa knew it and was trying to heal her. One of my three dogs named Maximus is like that also. I'm having health issues and it never fails that he will go right to the spot on my body that if afflicted and try to lick it. One of our other dogs had a really bad cut that probably needed stitches but the vet wasnt open, he was on holiday. Max would go up and lick her spot and I swear within 4 days it was almost healed. When we went to the vet for a check up he was amazed on how the wound had healed so fast. Animals are truly amazing. Star and flag, nice thread!

Laughing my a.. off. Way too funny.

An old family friend of mine had two like yours and I know exactly what you are talking about. Do you even need a bad of cookies or is that for the extra amount someone may desire?

Thats really interesting. When i was a little kid, about six growing up on the mexican border, I had really bad warts on my hands. My mother took me to the doctor numerous time to have them removed. There was a really really old mexican lady in our neighborhood that told my Mom to put butter on my hands once a week then let our dogs lick it off and the warts would be gone in about a month. She swore it worked and used to use this on her children. My Mom, a nurse, of course thought the old lady was senile and thought the idea of dogs and butter was totally disgusting so we never tried that particular treatment.

The warts on my hands finally went away as I got older but this thread makes me wonder about what the old lady said, maybe she was on to something. The medical community really should take a closer look at folk cures.

Extra. Desire can turn them into garden hoses.
