2010 04 15 04 UTC meteor (Madison, WI, USA)

the meteor was bright green at first, and the sky was almost blue for a few seconds. The meteor then broke into several pieces and glowed orange as it faded away. Was visible for 10-15 seconds. The loop shows a plane going by, then the fireball that illuminates the contrail of that plane (and another from a previous plane that is not visible) The pictures were taken at 10PM CDT on April 14, 2010 (03 UTC April 15, 2010) Please credit University of Wisconsin - AOS/SSEC for the images.

This meteor was seen over down town madison, the particolar thing are those 2 shiny lights that you can see in the first pic,, and suddenly after the meteor (or what ever it was) exploded in mid air... Looking at how brilliant the explosion was I think that if eveit had hit the ground it would have caused maggior damage to the population... do you guys thinkthat maybe some kind of ufo or glob of light could have destroyed it before it hit the ground?

That is very possible. I am looking at the bright light in the first picture and wonder how one could tell whether it was a plane or not. Is there any proof that an aircraft was at those coordinates?

Mystery fireball streaks through night sky

A fireball, or very bright meteor, lit up the night sky Wednesday across the upper Midwest heading east to west and included several reports of a sonic boom, according to teh National Weather Service The event was captured by video from the squad car of an Iowa sheriff's deputy and a university webcam.

According to the service's Web site, the fireball was seen streaking across the sky just after 10 p.m. The light was seen in Northern Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and Southern Wisconsin.

That's a long streak if it is the same thing. It is notoriously impossible to judge distance on the objects. Yet I would think if you didn't see a missle blow it up, that it was probably a natural occurance.

Authorities in several Midwestern states were flooded Wednesday night with reports of a gigantic fireball lighting up the sky, the National Weather Service reports.
